Rook, surname origins etc. (General)

Thanks for this. The Rook/Rooke family to which I am related lived all around The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. I have seen some of these definitions before, certainly my mother said that many had dark hair but she also said the family had French origins and attributed it and the olive complexions to that. However I cannot find the French connection, the person who she said was French was baptised in Bristol.
