My 3x GGrandfather Richard Jenkins married Susannah Jenkins, the widowed wife of his brother James, at Ganarew on October 1st 1837. The parish record list the parents of Richard as Peter Jenkins (Clearwell) and the father of Susannah as Timothy. Their home is listed as Clearwellings Green (Trow Green) parish of St Briavels, their residence as Hilstones, Ganarew.

Using Monmouth parish records, wills and census records I believe the father of Susannah is Walter of Trealy Farm Cwmcarvan.

James the first husband of Susannah (also brother of Richard) had two children before the death of James in 1835. James died as a result of a drowning accident at Redbrook.

The children of James and Susannah were called Elizabeth b 1833 and James b 1835. They also had a son Walter also born 1835. James b 1835 was baptised at Cwmcarvan. Walter and Elizabeth are with their grandparents on the 1841 census. Elizabeth with Peter and Esther Jenkins in Clearwell Walter with his maternal grandfather at Trealy farm Cwmcarvan.

Susannah and James married at Bath Abbey on 21st May 1832, an annoucement of the marriage was published in the Cambrian newspaper by William Jenkins, the grandfather of James.

When Susannah married Richard at Ganarew on 1st October she indicated that she was a spinster father Timothy. I have not been able to find any records for a Timothy Jenkins.

I would like some help please to pinpoint Hilstone(s) Ganarew

Many Thanks

Tony Jenkins
