George Gardiner 1845 & Sarah Bennett 1842 (General)

George was born in Bisley Glos. and Sarah was born in Whitecroft. On the 1881 census they were living at 5 Salmon Court Gloucester with 4 Children one being Richard Brain Scrivens, stepson to George. I can find Richard on the 1871 census along with Sarah & Worthy Scrivens. I am confused over the dates of marriage. I can find no trace of a marriage between Sarah and Worthy Scrivens, but I do have a marriage cert for George Gardiner and Sarah Bennett dated 17th April 1881 at St Nicholas Glos. Yet on the 1881 census they had 3 children all born before this date. George's father is shown as Abraham and Sarah's father is John. I have a birth certificate for their daughter Phoebe Eleanor [my grandmother who married Thomas Davis] born 1876 in Gloucester which states mother as Sarah Gardiner formerly Bennett. The family were living in Woolaston on the 1891 census, Blistors Cottage Newland in 1901 and Awre Rd. Blakeney in 1911. On the 1911 census it says that they had been married for 30 yrs and had 15 children 7 still living and 8 died. Can anyone shed some light on this for me. Also can anyone give me any information on Sarah as I have been unable to find her.
