James MORGAN and Sarah (BETHEL?) MORGAN Ruardean (General)
by LindaHinzman , Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 15:10 (4591 days ago)
Seeking information on James MORGAN, born 1825-1830, and his wife Sarah BETHEL, born about 1830. James is the son of Thomas MORGAN (I believe his mother was Elizabeth) and Sarah is the daughter of William BETHEL (mother unknown to me). I found their marriage record on this site; they married 31 Dec 1851. I have the 1861, 1871, and 1881 census information. After that, I can't find them. I believe James is in the 1851 census (age 20) with his parents and Elizabeth Morgan (age 7 - unsure of her relationship as I can't read the writing on the census form - possibly a granddaughter of Thomas and Elizabeth). Seeking 1891 census information on James and Sarah and dates/places of death, or any other information. Thank you!

Thank you so much for all this information. Since I haven't used this site too much and I'm not sure what all the records indicate, I'm wondering why you think that Sarah BEVAN might be the wife of James MORGAN. I found this marriage record that I believe is theirs and the last name is BETHEL:

I'm also wondering what the Oct-Nov-Dec 1852 registration for James Morgan and Sarah Beavan that you posted means. Does this have to do with marriage? Thanks again. Your information was most helpful!

Yes but its Parkend , and does not feel "right" for Sarah from Llangarron..{ at the risk of becoming unpopular} and flying in the face of what others have said before .....
If we take MPG's note and look at Tom Rowland born in 1863 to a Morgan father and Bevan mother in Ruardean area :-
Name: Tom Rowland Morgan
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1863
Registration district: Westbury on Severn
Inferred County: Gloucestershire
Volume: 6a
Page: 201
MORGAN Tom Rowland
MORGAN BEVAN

then the BETHEL looks more and more like an incorrect deduction.
as this couple live in the Parkend area with a child Richard born 1854 :-

We have certainly gained a lot of conflicting information. M P Griffiths found a different James Morgan & Sarah, with a son Richard in 1871,which indicates that a second James Morgan & Sarah existed, now Kathy is nominating different parents for Sarah Bethel, details of which can be found in the Parish Records :

My only real interest here is that James Morgan & Sarah Bethel's son William Henry Morgan 1856 married Evangeline Amanda Roberts 1867 in 1888. Evangeline Amanda Morgan nee Roberts emigrated to USA with Lewis (Louis) Marfell 1866. Interestingly one of William Henry Morgan's 8 siblings Mary Jane Morgan 1873 married Timothy Roberts 1876 in 1895, Timothy being a sibling of Evangeline Amanda Morgan nee Roberts.
Most interesting of all is that when Evangeline Amanda Morgan nee Roberts emigrated to USA in 1913 with Lewis (Louis) Marfell, she took only Evelyn Maude Morgan born 21 Aug 1902 with her, one of the 12 children she had with William Henry Morgan many of whom were a similar age to or younger than Evelyn Maude. Was she Lewis (Louis) Marfell's daughter ? No record has been found for a second marriage for Evangeline Amanda nee Roberts.
The US Census records are also revealing regarding Evelyn Maude Morgan :
In the 1930 census Louis and Evangeline are living in LaSalle in the home of Talcott Barnes(who was born in Wisconsin). Louis is a gardener and Evangeline is a cook for the family. In 1920 they are also living in LaSalle. They state that they both arrived in America in 1913. No children are living with them in either year.
Evelyn does appear on the 1920 U.S. census for LaSalle, Ilinois, but she is listed as Evelyn Marfell 16, a servant in the household of Howard Doan, Jr. Louis and Evangeline Marfell are listed in that census as residing at Deer Park in LaSalle County.
