by amandakerby @, Friday, June 15, 2012, 12:34 (4545 days ago)

Hi Im new to the FOD Forum but not to Gloucestershire research! Im looking for Sarah MOORE born around 1821 in Overton (which I think was a farm) nr Arlingham. I have searched the parish records here and come up with the following two families in the Arlingham parish, one quite possibly mine. Does anyone else have these families on their tree? Are Slowhands Cinderford MOORE's related?

William (retired soldier) and Elizabeth (Betty) MOORE, children:
Martha 1817
Sarah 1819 (possible contender for my Sarah)
Marianne d.1821 (infant)
Thomas 1822
Esther 1823
Eliza 1825
Mary 1827
Anne 1831

Following on from this there are baptisms for bastard children born to an Eliza Moore (b.1825 - possibly Eliza above?):
Jane 1843
Augustus 1848 d. 1848
Frances Ann 1849
Augustus Merrett 1852
Martha 1854
Edwin Wm Merrett 1857 d 1858
Wm John Merrett 1861
Elizabeth Ellen 1864
Edith Emily 1867

Would love to hear from anyone connected.

They did end up in Warwickshire so I feel safe to say that's them in the hospital and the Jane MOORE grandaughter all fits. I have seen the marriage to TODMAN and I shall have to delve further because it doesn't seem right, but need to prove it before ruling out completely. At some stage I have also found this marriage which is more likely I think. I need to see the original record for more information.

Mmm you are right re the Todman marriage fitting the 1861 census. I think I shall back up the bus and print every census image I have and make sure we have one family and not two!

The hints im getting on Ancestry take me to a FAWKES family tree with the Todman marriage but it doesnt list the children so I wonder which family tree you are looking at?
Im too tired to think any more, its past 1am here so time for head on pillow! More tomorrow! Insomnia is an affliction which must affect lots of genealogists!

He spent the last years of his life in the Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick (a home for retired servicemen). If you have any connection with either the Moore or Todman families, please get in touch.'

MOORE family of Overton, Arlingham early 1800s

by amandakerby @, Friday, June 15, 2012, 13:28 (4545 days ago) @ amandakerby

Great, yes that looks likely to be her in the 1841, thanks. Sarah MOORE married Robert Webber of Chawleigh, Devon the same year in St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol. After the birth of first child a year later in Bristol, they moved first to Deptford, then to Bermondsey, London where they had at least thirteen more children.

Thre is one other person on Ancestry researchign this family so I might go see what she has listed on her public tree.

Thanks for your help and the useful map, though it booted up extremely small on my screen!
