Slowhands is right as usual, the parents of Mary Baldwin 1825, mother of the illegitimate John Baldwin 1849, were indeed William Baldwin 1779/1863 & Hannah Bailey 1789/1863 - married 8 Oct 1816.

Three items of interest here; firstly they were living apart in 1861 :

1861 Census East Dean RG9 1754 236
William Baldwin mar 81 Lab East Dean

1861 Census East Dean
Mary Baldwin head unmarried 39 Char Woman East Dean
John son 12 East Dean
Abraham son 10 East Dean
Ephraim son 3 East Dean
Hannah Baldwin Lodgers mother 70

1841 Census Dean Forest
Wm Baldwin b 1785
Hannah b 1791
James b 1819
Mary b 1825
Nehemiah b 1825
Elisha born1830
Peter b 1828
Timothy b 1832

The 1851 Census included in Slowhands posting, shows William as a Coal Miner. However another researcher has given me this information :

In 1842/3 William Baldwin, a shopkeeper (63), of Ruardean brought an action against the vicar, Rev. Henry Formby, for extending the churchyard and in doing so exposing the bones of his parents Richard and Sarah and of his brother Richard. He must have lost his case because costs of £6.16.8 were awarded against him.

It is possible that he could have been a shopkeeper in 1842, before becoming a Coal Miner at aged 70 in 1851, it casts some doubt. The parents quoted are those that I have for him Richard Baldwin & Sarah Herbert 1744/1816 1748/1813. Also William Baldwin did indeed have a brother Richard 1774/1840, so his grave could be one to be disturbed.

The baptism I have for him is shown below, together with the 3rd intesting item I have for him, the fact that William & Hannah Baldwin died on the same day 1st Jan 1863 and were buried on the same day. The gap between the two events, leads you to think of suspicious circumstances :

Mary Baldwin 1825 had 2 other illegitimate children, who are to be found in the various census :
James Abraham 1851 & Ephraim 1858, the latter was baptised 28 Mar 1858, but cannot find James Abraham, which may be due to changing names; shown James 1851, Abraham 1861

Lastly I make no excuses for appealing again for information concerning the parents of Richard Baldwin 1744
