This is very helpful! I had found a record of William Collins on the 1851 English census and then found James Collins. But you have given me much more.

? (although John not with this couple 1861 census)<

John must have been one of the children who died in infancy, the other one was probably Jennie, gathering from census information.
---------

1861 Census, Dorset, Wambrook

Carpenter & Shop
COLLINS
James - 47 - Master Wheelwright
Elizabeth - 38
William - 17 - Wheelwright ***
Harry - 6 ***
Ellen - 4
Eliza - 3
Fanny - 1 <

John is not listed here. He would have been about 12 years old. Was it common then for boys to go to boarding school? The census asked the names of people who slept in the household that night. So John was someplace else.

Elizabeth COLLINS, 33, born Monmouthshire, Malpas<

One of the unidentified photos that were in with the Collins/Smith papers is a woman that was taken in Monmouth.

1891 Census, London, Kensington Place

COLLINS
Henry - 36, Political Secretary, born Stockland Devon
Elizabeth - 40 - born Malpas, Monmouthshire
Annie (niece) 20 - Servant Cook, born Devon
Edith E (niece) - 6 - born London<

I have a photo of a couple taken by a photog. at Deptford Bridge, Corner of Greenwich rd.

Thank you for the leads. They have potential and I will see what else I can find out using them.

I truly appreciate your help.
Janet
