Thomas Morgan's Aunt Jane Morgan of the Hurst, Lydney married William Morgan of Rhymney, Monmouthshire son of the wealthy Sir William Morgan of Tredegar House, Newport, Monmouthshire. According to classical genealogies, William and Jane gave rise to the Morgan-Clifford Family of Hurst. However, my research gives an alternative version which makes William Morgan born in the manor of Hurst (Will PROB 11/366 dated 1681), the paternal ancestor of the Morgan Cliffords. This leaves the question as to what happened to Willam Morgan of Rhymney and Jane Morgan of Hurst? In this respect, there is a Will of William Winter of Coleford PROB 11/150 of 1625 which refers to his "loveing cosin William Morgan of Collford". Now Sir William Morgan married Elizabeth Winter of Lydney, the sister of William Winter of Coleford. Hence, it is possible that William Morgan of Collford is William Morgan of Rhymney.

Is he any relation to Thomas Morgan who was definitely at Culham College, Oxford in 1856? If so do you know what happened to him after that as I have had difficulties trying to pin down the right Thomas Morgan.

I think this one was baptised on 23rd Feb 1836 and was the son of Henry Morgan 1812-1867 and Fanny (nee Vaugn/Vaughan...) 1814-1891 but I am still trying to verify it as there are so many Morgans.

The Will of Richard Morgan of Parkend of 15th May 1841 says: "To the son of my late brother Henry - Thomas the sum of £7.10". Any connection?

Thanks for this, it looks like they are the same family, I'm glad I asked. It might explain how they could afford to send him to Oxford. He definitely went there as I have a notebook he wrote there and he is in Culham College's records.

I had found a Thomas Morgan as a possible brother to Henry but wasn't sure if I was right. Henry Morgan was born 1812 died 6/1/1867, Fanny was born 1814 and died 2/10/1891. They married at Awre.
I have found a Hannah who might be Henry and Thomas' sister or cousin and an Elizabeth as another possible sibling. Their mother could be a Sarah but I have yet to find further proof of this.

If this is the same family as that of Richard Morgan, then it is my paternal Morgan line which I have traced back to about 1642 and can be found at
