Re your query about Lillian Jelf and her husband Reginald Simpson. They did survive the war had 3 children and moved to Birmingham. Lillian died in 1929 and Reginald in 1938. They were my grandparents.

Hi Simbarn,
Thanks for closing the loop. I'm very pleased indeed to hear your grandparents survived the War, I've seen too many cases of people who didnt make it thro the last few weeks...

Re your query re the wedding photo, I suspect if Dink saw your enquiry you may well have heard from him offline, if not I suggest you send him a direct email. I did search the excellent British Newspaper Archives website trying to find the wedding, but without luck ??. The site does carry the Cheltenham Chronicle from that period and there were a few possible later references to Mrs Lilian Jelf, but not this wedding despite my best efforts searching it, sorry. I think it was only reported within the Graphic issue of the paper, which the BNA site doesn't appear to hold, was this the Chronicle's "illustrated" sister in a similar way the Gloucester Journal was to the Citizen ?.

Hope you find the photo, Jeff.

Hi Jefff,

I have sent the wedding photo, now all she has to do is work out who the dozen or so other people are in the photo.

You are correct about the pictorial newspaper not being on the BNA site. Very occasional there are references in a picture to a corresponding article in the Chronicle but I've not found any for the 90 or so pictures of Foresters in the pictorial publication.

Thanks for your reply. I did manage to get the photo, and I have also sent a copy to my brother who is as pleased as me. Although they did survive the war their life in Birmingham was not that great. Lillian died at 36 from TB. Reginald i think had some form of cancer and died at 45. The youngest daugther died at 2 years of age. She never came out of hospital. The other daughter died at 20 again from TB.

Again it was probably like many family's of that time.

Bearland Villas, Gloster

by Jefff @, West London, Middlesex, Friday, February 22, 2013, 21:00 (4287 days ago) @ slowhands

Out of pure curiosity for what seemed an unusual address I found there is an area of Gloster called Bearlands down towards the docks, abt where the Prison & Shire Hall is today. Until 1870 or so and the area was developed there was a Bearland House with orchard, so ??. Why the name I don't know, hopefully not a reminder of bear baiting but ??. Anyhow, my reason for posting is that one of the resulting hits was for this "Simpson" surname website which may be of future interest to Dink. It lists several Simpsons mostly from the Dymchurch Kent area (hence the Royal Navy?) but also these more local entries of which the latter two appear most relevant:

Simpson, Edward William, b.1860, Born Mar 25 1860 in Dymchurch New Romney Kent, Died Apr 28 1906 in Gloucester England

Simpson, Charles George, Born Apr 14 1894 in Gloucester England, Died Nov 02 1983 in Sheffield Yorkshire England

Simpson, Lionel Reginald Edward, Born Mar 28 1920 in 2 Bearland Villas Gloucester Gloucestershire England, Died Jul 21 2001 in 4 Farmoor Grove Shard End Birmingham West Midlands England

Simpson, Gwendline Lillian, Born Sep 21 1921 in Tamworth Staffordshire England, Died Oct 14 1941 in Gloucester England

I see you mention group wedding photo of Lillian May Jelf to Reginald Edward Simpson in The cheltenham Chronicle and Gloucester Graphic on 3 Aug 1918. Do you know how I can get hold of this photo and they are my Grandparents and I have no idea what they look like as they both died before I was born. I would be really grateful for any help.

Thanks
