I have noticed a possible inconsistency between the memorial inscriptions section and the parish records section of the site.

The image transcription is consistent with this but the image itself is not decipherable.
The only Mary Ann Brain in the "parish register" (Information obtained from gravestone) is.

I believe Mary Ann to be my wife's 4G Aunt Mary Anne nee Bennett christened 4 Jul 1817 Drybrook daughter of James Bennett and Anne Toomey.
Does any one have knowledge of this Thomas Brain's (b ca 1810) parents?

Hi Moad
I think your question regarding the parents of Thomas Brain 1806 has been answered, it is as shown James Brain baptised 1 Jan 1769 & Hannah Blanch 1774. They were married 10 Nov 1794 Drybrook. Her parents being Samuel Blanch 1744 & Esther, married 30 Sep 1766 Newland, he being the son of William Blanch & Mary. My interest here is that Hannah Blanch 1774 had a sister Elizabeth Blanch 1788 who married my GGGG Uncle James Marfell 1794.
James Brain 1769 was my 1st cousin 6 times removed, one of the 14 children of Christopher Brain 1725/1799 & Ruth 1728/1796. Christopher Brain 1725/1799 was the one of the 9 children of my GGGGGG Grandparents Giles Brain 1686/1749 & Joan Mutlow 1691/1761 married 9 Feb 1714 Hope Mansell. I have little detail for Giles Brain 1686 except that his parents were "probably" Giles Brain & Elinor.
Joan Mutlow was the daughter of Richard Mutlow & Mary. Amongst her 6 siblings she had a brother James 1689. If you examine the Lych Gate at Ruardean Church there is a stone endorsed .......May Ye 10th 1743 James Mutlow & Hendry Heane Churchwardens. I have tried to establish if this is the same James Mutlow in my Famiuly Tree without success.
You will note from the census data provided in this thread that Thomas Brain & Mary Ann nee Bennett had a daughter Anne Tommey Brain (which links nicely to your mention of "Aunt Mary Anne nee Bennett christened 4 Jul 1817 Drybrook daughter of James Bennett and Anne Toomey" Anne Tommey Brain born 20 Dec 1835 baptised 1 Jan 1836 married Cornelius Brain 1830 on 6 Feb 1855 Hope Mansell, they had a son Francis William Thomas Brain (later "Sir" Francis)
See thread :
http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?mode=thread&id=12804#p37216
including :
An extract from some of my notes for this obviously very clever man :
Francis William Thomas (Frank) Brain had been associated with the use of electric floodlights on the Severn Bridge in 1879 where they had been used to enable construction work to continue at night to make the best use of the tides. After use on the bridge, the apparatus, consisting of a couple of powerful lamps supplied by a Gramme machine, was re-erected at Trafalgar on the surface to light the colliery yard, and a football match was even played at night! Frank Brain was also connected with the Electric Blasting Apparatus Company who made fuses for simultaneous shot firing underground, and had buildings close to Trafalgar Colliery.
Electricity was also used at Trafalgar when the first underground pumping plant was installed in December 1882. The installation at Trafalgar was the first recorded use of electric power in mines. The equipment consisted of a Gramme machine on the surface driven by a steam engine and a Siemens dynamo used as a 11/2 horse power motor belted to a pump underground. The Gramme machine still exists today, preserved in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. It attained such success that three additional plants were erected in May 1887 and these did the larger part of the pumping.
Now perhaps you can help me. I have 263 Bennett's in my Family Tree, including 22 James Bennett. Can you provide more details regarding the James Bennett & Anne Toomey who you say are the parents of Mary Ann Bennet 1817.

Hi Everyone
My James BENNETT is from the parish of Ruardean in the Forest of Dean,
Gloucestershire. His marriage entry stated that he was a widower when he
married Ann TOOMEY/TOMMY at Bridstow, Herefordshire, 5th October 1815. I
only know of one child, Elizabeth, christened 31st December 1820, Holy
Trinity, Drybrook, Gloucestershire. Elizabeth married Matthew STEPHENS
of Clearwell, Glos. I have no information on who James' parents were,
nor do I know who his first wife was (still delving into the parish
registers).
Best wishes
Cathie Bennett (surname acquired by marriage :)
The marriage date above is constant with the death date of his first wife Sarah earlier in 2015.
We have come across the following on this James Bennett

cester, Coal Proprietor, deceased (who died on or about the
28th day of March 1841), are forthwith to come in and
prove their debts before Andrew Henry Lynch, Esq.
one of the Masters of the said Court, at his chambers,
in Southampton-buildings, Chancery-lane, London, or in
default thereof they will be excluded the benefit of the said Decree.
and are wondering whether the will of James Bennett might be accessed somewhere
We also found an obiuary of James Bennett

At Drybrook, in the Forest of Dean,
aged 57, Mr. James Bennett. As an ex-
tensive proprietor of collieries and other
works in the forest, which, commencing
at the early period of twelve years of age,
be carried on with considerable enterprise
and perseverance, be provided empioy-
ment for several hundred men and boys.
He Was attended to his last home in the
family vault at Mitcheldean church by
upwards of700 foresters.
We have not found the death of Ann Bennett (nee Toomey) but think she may have predeceased james.
Is there a transcription of the Bennett vault in Mitcheldean?

Hi Again Moad
I note from your posting that the James Bennett that married Ann Toomey died in March 1841 aged 57 - i.e. born 1784.
Amongst my James Bennett's is James Bennett baptised 4 Jul 1783 Mitcheldean, son of Thomas Bennett 1747/1822 & Jane Cowles 1756/1822.
This James Bennet married Sarah Marfell baptised 6 Oct 1780 Weston under Penyard. They had 3 children, the last of whom Sophia Bennett was born 1812. I know nothing of this child after her baptism, although I do have details of the marriage and descendants of James Bennet & Sarah Marfells other 2 children - Timothy 1803 who married Beata Hale 1805/1837, one child Jane 1834 & Jane Bennett 1806 who married George Jones 1807/1859.
1841 Census Mitcheldean
Timothy Bennett abt 1804 Gloucestershire, Malster ( Widow of Beata)
Thomas Bennett abt 1781 Gloucestershire, Uncle
Jane Bennett abt 1834 Gloucestershire,
1851 Census
Timothy Bernett 47 Widower
Jane Bernett 16
Thomas Bernett 70 Uncle
Hannah Davis 57
Elizabeth Moles 22
Sarah Noice 19
1841 Census Hope Mansell
George Jones abt 1811 Herefordshire,
Jane Jones abt 1811 Herefordshire,
1851 Census Hope Mansell
George Jones abt 1808 Mitcheldean, Head
Jane Jones abt 1806 Mitcheldean, Wife
James Charles Jones abt 1838 Hope Mansell, Son
William Bennett Jones abt 1836 Hope Mansell,Son
I have details of their descendants, including the fact that George Jones & Jane nee Bennett's great grand daughter Violet Dorothy Florence Jones 1901/1990 married back into the Marfell family marrying Jonathon Marfell 1904/1935 and as members of the Marfell Family, I have a copy of the marriage certificate and gravestone image.
Now we come to the more interesting bit for you. "A" Sarah Bennett died 6 Jul 1814 so this could be the Sarah that James marriewd before marrying Ann Toomey :
Record_ID: 310971

Perhaps the clincher - albeit from my own records - I have recorded James Bennett as being buried 31 March 1841 Mitheldean.
James Bennett baptised 4 Jul 1783 Mitcheldean, son of Thomas Bennett 1747/1822 & Jane Cowles 1756/1822, had a brother Thomas Bennett baptised 24 Sept 1780 Mitcheldean, buried 21 Oct 1781. His will has further interesting info - note the reference to Quabbs House:
BENNETT Thomas - 18 January 1862
The Will with two Codicils of Thomas BENNETT late of the Parish of Hope Mansell in the County of Hereford Landowner and Coal Proprietor deceased who died 16 October 1861 at Hope Mansell aforesaid was proved at Hereford by the oaths of Francis Hamp ADAMS of the Town of Ross in the said County Banker and Cornelius BRAIN of the Quabbs House near Dryrook in the Forest of Dean in the County of Gloucester Coal Proprietor for the Executors. Effects under £1,000
Whilst my main area of interest is the Marfell family, I follow the siblings and parents of spouses, sometimes I go too far, but in most cases this additional information proves invaluable, with the degree of inter-marrying in the Forest. In this case I can tell you that The parents of Thomas Bennett 1747 (see above) were James Bennett 1718/1747 and Elizabeth Hazel 1711/1778. They married 24 Apr 1740 and had 5 children, one of whom James 1742 married Elizabeth Annetts 16 Jun 1758 and they had 5 children, including Jane 1771/1810 who married one of my GGGG Grandfathers John Marfell 1762/1829.
I am 95% sure that the James Bennett 1783 who married Sarah Marfell went on to marry Ann Toomey. Luckily my Family Tree software has the ability to merge entire families and their descendants,so quoting from Star Trek - in my Family Tree - "I have made it so"

One notes that James was buried in the Bennett vault in Mitcheldean. It is possible that Sarah would also have been buried there. The age at death is more or less consistent.

Hi Again Moad
Regarding your first posting and the 2 Sarah Bennett's burials. I think on reflection the latter burial is the most likeky as it was in Mitcheldean, the same as James Bennett.
