Thankyou Slowhands. I am not sure that the earlier census's are my William, as I have the 1881 census for him married to Harriet living in Birmingham. I think the only way I am going to confirm his family are if I can find his marriage to Harriet, but that is proving difficult at the moment. As for the Lily on the 1901 census, I can only think it was an error and it should have been written as Lucy. There are several mistakes on there i.e. Williams age and the family name was incorrectly spelt.
I'll keep surfing and see what I can come up with.
