1841 Census:

Age and sex of each person:
Ages up to 15 are listed exactly as reported/recorded but ages over 15 were rounded to the nearest 5 years (i.e. a person aged 53 would be listed on the census as age 50 years).

Extract from info in 1841 Census.

Can I confirm that they would round DOWN the birth age and not UP?

ie. 53 years would be 50 years on one entry and on another 53 years would be 55 years. Do they ALWAY round DOWN or could it go either way.

I hope you understand.

Alex.
