Evan & Eleanor Symonds, son George, 1682, Newland (General)

by mjsymonds @, California, USA, Saturday, July 13, 2013, 03:16 (4146 days ago)

Hello,

I'm Melanie Symonds, a descendant of one of the Forest of Dean Symonds/Symons/Simons lineages. I've found this site extremely helpful, but after pouring over all the records and posts, I'm stumped and wonder if anyone has any further information on the Evan and Eleanor Symonds who buried their son George in 1682?

The first record (copied below) is the only one I've been able to find that mentions their names. Does anyone have them anywhere else?

And unless I am completely mistaken, the George Symonds who died in 1682 was the same George Symons who married Elizabeth Palmer in 1680 and fathered Jane and Thomas in 1681 and 1682 respectively. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Melanie

Evan & Eleanor Symonds, son George, 1682, Newland

by mjsymonds @, California, USA, Saturday, July 13, 2013, 06:31 (4146 days ago) @ mjsymonds

I think I may have just found the answer to my own question!

I just found this record showing Evans as a surname for a John and Eleanor with child Eleanor, all residing in Coleford in 1637 which makes it more likely the burial record for George Symonds was mistakenly transcribed as "son of Evan & Eleanor" where perhaps it actually read "son of Evans, Eleanor" ...which brings up the next question: Why was George's surname different from his mother's?

Off to see what else I can find!

Melanie
