Thomas COX born Churcham about 1822 (General)

Good morning

I am looking for Thomas Cox, born Churcham about 1822.

In 1861 he was living in Tewkesbury with wife Eliza and daughters Harriet and Louisa. In 1871 he had a wife Alice and was living in Gloucester.

In 1861 he gave his birthplace as Church End, Glos but Churcham, Glos in 1871 and 1881. He was a labourer.

I would be grateful for any information on this family.

Thanks

Sian

I can find Thomas COX and Eliza on the 1861 census - High Street, Tewkesbury

1861 - Eagles Alley

Thomas COX - 38 - born Churchend
Eliza - 35 - born Poundhope (there are a few people on later census born Pound Hope, which is Herefordshire)
Harriet - 9 - born Hereford
Louisa - 7 - ditto

? Do you have the birth certificates of Harriet/Louisa, which would give the mother's maiden name

???

England & Wales, Freebdm

Name: Louisa COX

Date of Registraton: Oct-Nov-Dec Qtr 1854

Registration District: Leominster

Inferred County: Herefordshire

Volume: 6a

Page: 441

Can't see Thomas & Alice on the 1871 census, could you provide this? to see where Alice was born.

Checked the Gloucestershire baptism index - no Thomas COX christened at Churcham - and no other Cox baptisms or marriages at Churcham.

Thanks for your reply - and particularly for interpreting Pound Hope which I had been unable to decipher.

The connections with the Forest of Dean would be Thomas's birth in Churcham and Harriet's birth in Huntley - if in fact they were telling the truth on the census.

Thomas was at 3 The Passage, St Mary de Lode, Gloucester RG10-2613/9/9 in 1871 and 9, No 2 Court, Guinea Street, St Mary de Lode, Gloucester RG11-2532/27/19.

Second wife Alice was born Fornhope, Heref about 1824 so possibly the same person as Eliza. Both girls had daughters called Alice.

Unfortunately the girls seem very unsure of when and where they were born:

Harriet
1861 Census bn about 1851 Herefordshire
1871 Census bn about 1852 Huntley, Glos
1881 Census bn about 1854 Huntley, Glos
1891 Census bn about 1854 Sugden, Heref
1901 Census bn about 1855 Herefordshire

Louisa
1861 Census bn about 1853 Hereforshire
1871 and 1881 bn about 1856 Hereford City, Heref
1901 Census bn about 1856 Gloucester

So I have not been confident of identifying the correct birth registration.

Thanks for taking an interest

Sian
