findmypast - forum members recent experience? (General)

Am I alone in finding that the service on findmypast these last few days has been so frustratingly slow that it is practically unuseable?
I know at the best of times it slow because they seem more interested in giving priority to loading banner adverts than giving search results.
I would be interested to see other forum members views.
It so useless I presently don't have the patience to wait for the home page to load in the hope that there might be some means, thereon, of emailing them to complain!

Can't comment on these pay for sites, however this site experiences its heaviest loads typically during the October - March timeframe, so that is when you might see a slow down here.
Other peak load/slower responses usually coincide with the BBC airing " Who do you think you are" or ITV with one of its "lost relative - style" program etc
We are a free to use ( but if you can please donate ) site so we do not run any "free access" this weekend trials - I would expect those to also "clog" up the sites you mention ;-)

I fully agree with this. I have emailed the FMP team to complain about the speed and the annoying banner adverts.
Also, I've recently upgraded my subscription to FMP to World membership and have found the content very disappointing and frustrating to use - the Ancestry World membership is much better.

Daffodil,
You will probably get the same reply as I had - "clear your cache (files and cookies)reboot and then log in and try again, or, alternatively, even temporarily, try using a different browser for site access".
No issue at their end they say.
I did the first and it makes little difference.
I am reluctant to end my subscription because they have some useful resources which ancestry do not have.
I think the problem is that they do not have enough server capacity. And nothing alters the fact that when you get search results the page is frozen until that little advert for 'Saga' or suchlike appears in the top corner.
Hopefully it might return to what it was previously - bearable.

Today findmypast's service, for whatever reason, has returned to better than normal, and is presently so fast it should carry a warning about flashing images!

I'm also experiencing a problem with Ancestry. Instead of all my photographs being displayed on my tree I'm getting what I can only describe as 'a clock face' instead of the photo. Again the answer at present from Ancestry is, 'its your cookies'. As I have not changed anything over the past weeks (been away on holiday)and this problem as only started in the last 10 days, I think I'm also been given the run around.

Adverts are an ongoing problem with a lot of websites these days. I had this problem with Find my past, Ancestry & Facebook.
I installed a free bit of software called "Adblock Plus" and the result was nothing short of miraculous. All three showed a marked increase in download speed.
It is available for Google Chrome, I'm unsure if it's available for Internet Explorer yet or any other browsers.
If like me, you wish to keep your existing browser, just install Chrome & Adblock Plus for the websites that cause a nuisance with their excessive adverts and use Chrome solely for them.
Hope this helps.

Hi Forest Prints
Fantastic ! I can't believe what a difference it made. I was waiting more than a minute at times for Ancestry and then more to open up inside the web. This will decrease my stress levels +++ plus increase my output.
Thank you so much,.
