Daisy Vine (General)

I've just found this entry on the parish records and wondered if there was any information on her son as we knew she had died young in service but didn't know she had a child in the workhouse. I'm assuming he was illegitimate as only a first fathers name is listed.

Daisy died in 1924. Her mother died when she was a baby and her father left her and her brother (my granddad)and sister with their grandparents Timothy and Margaret Morgan in Chepstow. John would be a first cousin of my father but is this too recent for records to be available as he could still be alive now?

Hi Barbara,
First, please note I posted this without seeing your last post.

I suspect the father was an Alec MORGAN given the information on the PR. Yes the parents don't appear to be married but its reassuring to see the father is named on the PR, unlike many I've seen.
Could this be Alec I wonder, from this site's PRs ?. I think Alec's quite a rare Forest name which is helpful, I think this is the only Alec Morgan in the database, and he is the right age and approximate locality.

Searching thro FreeBMD etc etc I see this name is quite common just across the border in Monmouthshire eg Newport. It's also occasionally spelt "Alick".

Ancestry have no other record of a John MORGAN VINE - other than his birth - (Sept 16 1921 - FoD records)

I've had a look a death records for birth date of Sept 16 1921, but no John VINE or John MORGAN - he could have been adopted and had a name change.

As John's father was an Actor - and Daisy would have been with Alec around Christmas 1920 - not sure what theatres were around Chepstow area i.e Panto's etc.

? Palace Theatre, Chepstow

May be Chepstow Union records, if available, would hold clues.

Does anyone have access to the Chepstow Union records? Timothy Morgan, Daisy's grandfather, is listed as an inmate in the 1911 census and died later that year. I suppose with no National Health Service, it was a place to go to die if you couldn't afford a doctor. His wife Margaret lived until 1933 so could have looked after the baby as she did look after her grandchildren when their father left them.

If you google Chepstow Union Workhouse records …..

Monmouthshire Family History have transcribed births from 1855-1914 - and Gwent Records Office also hold records. Would try and do the link, but have had a steroid injection in my finger this afternoon and struggling to type…..

Also try searching this forum, been discussed a good few times. The excellent Workhouses site shows who holds what records, I think as MPG says it's Gwent Archives, sorry cannot spend much time now.
