2021 Census (General)

I'm sure many of you are like me wishing we could fast forward to 2021 and search. So does anyone know if it's possible to request access to your own families census pages? Probably not as they would be inundated by requests if it was allowed wouldn't they. It would require me/us going to a records office, the workload would be too much. But this information is ours, a 100 year rule exists stopping any release, yet sensitive, one time top secret information and papers, are being released and made public all the time.

I would be happy to see the first census I appear in, 1951. Nothing more than Address, name, age, occupation, place of birth. What makes this information too sensitive for us to see defeats me. I do know some feel quite differently, some so touchy you could almost hear some posts screaming from the page "THEY CAN'T BE SEEN UNTIL 2021"

We all know that if we are given a name and a a rough idea of a place, Joe Bloggs born about 1960, Forest of Dean, a Smith or a Jones might mean a lot of work, but we could soon find parents names, marriage, order birth, marriage, death, certificates and find out more about anyone alive today than any census form will show. I've found relatives and friends who were illigimate, parents married after their birth, but today more than 50 years on it isn't an issue. They just laugh and say "How did you find that out?"

There are people in my family who disappear after 1911, they simply moved away and lost touch, and now there is nobody to ask questions. Luckily my surname allowed me to narrow the search down, so I think I have marriages and other details, but buying certificates to confirm things would be quite expensive, that 2021 census would or could make things much easier. cheers FB

It would seem, we are lucky to have the 1921 census to look forward to, as it would appear, the 1931 census was destroyed by fire on Saturday 19 December 1942 - not by enemy bombing, but an unexplained incident.

Find My Past had the UK electoral rolls from 2002 to 2013 which can be of help if you have a distinctive surname; it is sometimes possible to trace back using FreeBMD.
