Hi Davo,
searching tinternet gave this site which may help you, I think your "Common" refers to the "Green" mentioned in the site ?.

Clicking the "Green" heading gives precise location and a modern map. If you zoom into the map it labels Glasshouse Hill slightly to the west, between Bearfoot Wood and Castle Hill Wood. I suggest you compare this map to the period Ordnance Survey maps www.old-maps.co.uk, search using postcode GL17 ONN as there are other similar names around the UK.

Sadly this area isn't yet covered online by the British History series of books, and my copy of the first book is currently 120 miles away, sorry.

UPDATE: Ooops, knew I should have searched the forum first, or better still read this whole thread, must be all this sunshine !. I see Slowhands has already discussed the area in his earlier post last year.
