It was as Graham has written. The inner Forest was still extra parochial at that time. People used the churches they preferred on the periphery. My family lived in Sewdley/Soudleigh/Soudley during this period.

My great grandparents were married at St Peter's Newnham 1857, despite the fact that the nearest was St John's Cinderford consecrated 1842? My greatgrandfathers sister was married at St Paul's, Parkend 1850.

This was common practice.
