George Wait bn c1836 was 5th child of Samuel c1791- and Elizabeth (Vaughan) Wait c1802- (decd by 1861?), to the best of my knowledge.

George's siblings:-

John bapt 4feb1827 married my great grandfathers sister Mary at St Paul's Parkend 2Jun1850.

Samuel bapt 4Oct1829

Abraham bapt 13Nov 1832 (probably decd. by 1841)

Charlotte bapt 25May1834

Then came George c1836, Sarah c1839 (marr. a Thomas James), Adelaide bapt 13Nov1842 and Joseph c1848.

All detailed dates from Newnham PR's. This was peripheral to my researches and I didn't pick up on a Jane.

Thanks for that, I am trying to piece together my Great Grandmother, on her marriage certificate she is Jane James father is George James they marry on 26 April 1875 in Whittington Gloucestershire and this is given as their address, On her death certificate she dies in Winstone on 8 Dec 1938 and her age is 83yrs which means she was born in 1855, In the 1881 census she is living with her husband and family in Longborough near Stow on the Wold, In 1891 they were living in Sherborne near Northleach, 1901 they were living in Notgrove here her birthplace is stated as Forest of Dean, 1911 they are in Notgrove here she states she was born East Dean, all other s she states she was born in Newnham. The nearest I have got is Jane James baptised in Newnham to a Susan James who I have found goes on a year later to marry George Waite, I was trying this scenario out to try to prove or disprove if I could find her married to someone else, this is why I need as much help as I can get I have been doing the tree for 25yrs and this is the nearest I have got, once again thanks for your help Jenny

Jane WAITES, 15, Domestic servant, born Glos. Soudley (Newnham in brackets underneath)

In the household of:-
William H.WARE, 40, Tanner, timber & bark merchant, born Devon.

Hi all,
the placename is Ayleford, it's about 1/2 mile south of Lower Soudley on the road to Newnham, still on Soudley Brook. If more information is required then I suggest read this prior thread
http://forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=37524
Within that thread Slowhands refers to an earlier thread, unfortunately the posted link is now defunct, I think this is the thread he refers to
http://forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=24427

The area was particularly known for it's iron works in the earlier 1800s, the Brook being essential to these processes, plus presumably the nearby iron ore deposits at Shakemantle(Ruspidge). Modern maps still show Forge House & Forge Grove, for example. The "economic history of Newnham" describes Ayleford, see here under "Mills & Ironworks"

Hi thanks for your message, I like you think that in 1871 Jane is working as a servant under the name Jane Waites, , It has this person born in the same place and with her father being George Waite it seems to tie in, Thanks for your help Jenny
