Many thanks for the update - sooo looking forward to Shadrach's poem as he is my chief interest.
Their father was Thomas Jenkins married to Maria Priest. I am now trying to work out who Thomas's parents were.
Any hints given in your Samuel Jenkins research re his paternal grand parents?

re Thomas JENKINS who married Maria Priest
by janethowell, Monday, June 23, 2014, 18:52 (3800 days ago) @ MPGriffiths
The Thomas Jenkins I am looking for was 55 years on the 1841 census and living at Mill Hill. He died before the 1851 census as Maria Jenkins nee Priest lists herself as a widow.
1841 census Mill Hill
JENKINS Thomas 55
JENKINS Maria 45
JENKINS Thomas 20
JENKINS Daniel 15
JENKINS James 15
JENKINS Shadrach 10
JENKINS Kezia 8
JENKINS Ann 5
JENKINS Meshach 5
JENKINS Alice 2
1851 (Mill Hill, nr Bream’s Eaves)
JENKINS Maria Widow/er 55 West Dean
Meshach ?12 Coal Miner West Dean
Alice 11 West Dean
The 1841 census rounds the ages of those over 15 down to the nearest 5
(under 15s recorded accurately).
Since the census was taken on 6th June 1841, I have been looking for dates of birth for Thomas Jenkins from 1782 to 1786. Thomas Jenkins and Maria Priest were married in 1811 which fits nicely with their first born child Elizabeth Jenkins in 1812.
There are a few possibles for Thomas in this time frame including George x Sarah Jenkins at Bream, and Thomas x Sarah Jenkins also at Bream.
The George x Sarah parentage fits best giving Thomas Jenkins a dob of May 1785 and this fits with a listed death in March 1845 aged 59 at Oakwood Mill.
The facts so far fit but I don't have much to connect them.
There is an entry in the freeminer's register which fits the dates too
Record_Number: 23
Thomas JENKINS
Calculated Year of Birth: 1785
Age: 53
Day: 1 Sep 1838
Residence: Breams Eaves
The only other tenuous "evidence" I can make fit is this ...
George and Sarah Jenkins have a son Isaac Jenkins in 1778 who has a son Josiah in 1816 at Elwwod who marries Annie Beach in 1838.
George and Sarah Jenkins have a son Thomas Jenkins in 1785(who marries Maria Priest in 1811)
George and Sarah Jenkins have a son James Jenkins in 1793 (who marries Susannah Phipps in 1817)
James, Thomas and Josiah Jenkins are in adjacent houses on the 1841 census at Mill Hill.
ANY snippet of information to help indicate that this is more than an hypothesis would be great
Many thanks for reading this far

Trying to fathom this out, but a bit brain dead!!! Hard day on the golf course!!!
By using the Advance Search and looking for witnesses sometimes helps…..
e.g. At the marriage at St Briavels 4 December 1834 - when Joseph TEAGUE a Widower, married Emma PRIEST, one witness was Maria JENKINS !!!
Again, looking at the witnesses of Thomas JENKINS to Maria PREEST in 1811 - one witness was Philip WILLIS who married Sarah ELSMORE in Newland 18 May 1812 and seemed to have a Son John Elsmore WILLIS christened at Bream 21 March 1813 -
Can see John E WILLIS, in later census' in Wales.
Looking at the 1841 census in Elwall
Absalom JINKINS - 30 - Miner
Mary Ann - 5
Eliza - 2
John ELSMORE - 60 - Ind (Will 15 October 1850 - Sarah WILLIS, his sister, wife of Philip WILLIS)
Sarah - 60
Sarah WILLIS - 58
and various JINKINS below them (Ancestry has transcribed these families in all different way i.e Charles wife is Tompsomes??
The page and a half on this 1841 needs copying out and transcribed properly …
Fod Records, Charles Lewis JENKINS married Temperance ELLAWAY - Hundred of St Briavels - 13 July 1833 - witnesses: William Lewis JENKINS and Wm ELLAWAY)
Absalom + his family, Enos JENKINS and wife Catharine CAVENDER - who married at Hewelsfield - 7 December 1838 - father: James JENKINS, Shoemaker : witnesses: Elam JENKINS and Eliza BEACH and on Public Members Tree - Enos JENKINS died 1870 Pottsville Northwest Ward Schuglkill, Pennsylavania…..
? is Enos, Enon JENKINS - christened 24 May 1818 - parents James (Shoemaker) & Maria
inc: William JINKINS age 73 (Shoemaker) and Catherine 65 - then a family of LEWIS
? Is there any connection between WILLIS/JENKINS/ELSMORE

There is a searchable transcription of the 1841 and 1861 Census for the Forest of Dean on this site.
Tompsomes is Temperance.

Many thanks for your suggestions - you are obviously an expert at research and lateral thinking.
I am beginning to learn the art.
I'll work through your suggestions and see where it gets me on my learning curve.
