Charles Watkins 1825 (?) St Briavels (General)

Charles Lewis Watkins was my Gt Grandfather. I too have found him on the census's but am not sure if its the same Charles, at St Briavels.
Charles states on the older census's that he was born Monmouth. I have been stuck with Charles for a number of years. On his marriage certificate to Harriet Morris, he states his father was Henry Watkins - a Stay Maker.
Family stories say that Charles was connected to the coal mines at Bargoed. His first wife was called Margaret, which would match the St Briavels census. I don't know where the Lewis part comes in though. I am hoping to find a record of his first marriage, maybe Margaret was a Lewis.
Have you any ideas ?
