Hi All,
Does anyone remember or have any information about an explosion in Sling during the 1950s? From what I can gather a Mother and Daughter were killed.
Regards
Julie

Could this be the incident you are looking for!
"The fatal explosion at Coleford. G.J. Ball Esq., held an inquest yesterday (Friday) week, on the bodies of George Powell, aged 26, Herbert Powell, aged 1 year and 10 months, and William Powell, aged 31, the father of Herbert, who were killed by the explosion of a steam boiler at the Dark Hill Iron Furnace, near Parkend, the property of Messrs. Mushet, which unhappy occurrence we briefly reported last week. Powell's wife and another of his children and some other persons, were dreadfully injured but expected to recover."

Hi David,
No this isn't the explosion. The one I am looking for happened in the 1950s not the 1850s.
It was one of my distant Teague relatives and her daughter who died. Their surname was Baker.
Thankyou for looking though.
Regards
Julie

Hello Julie,
No doubt you have all the information you need by now, your query was posted quite a while ago! Anyway, just in case.....the explosion you refer to took place in May 1974. It was in a village, close to Sling, called Clements End.
A widow, her eldest daughter and her youngest son were killed. I have details if you need to know more.
