Hi Slowhands thanks for this message but I would have expected Henry to be with his family in 1841 as he was only about 10 years old
best wishes
Sylvia

Maybe , but I have seen yung 'uns working away from the family as Ag Lab, Male servant etc, and the 1841 doesn't give any idea of relationships between individuals in a household.. Henry's parish records will be the key !

Small boys were used for many things including chimney sweeps and as bird scarers ,they were also used for any jobs that a larger boy would find difficult to get to!

Hi
My thanks to gwrmad and Slowhands for your replies. Your observations about small boys working away from home reminded me that there is a record of a Henry JONES in the 1851 census who was a servant to a William KEAR(grocer) at St Briavels(2443 0633 015) but Henry was born in St.Briavels whereas the Henry I`m looking for was born in Lydbrook.
best wishes
Sylvia
