Remember that the spelling of the name can change by the entry.

I am convinced that Mr Cinderey is Guy Sindre of Lea, bapt. 04 July 1784 - 18 Mar 1828.
He married Susannh James c.1788 of Weston under Penyard on 29 Nov 1808 at Linton.

George Cindry - born 01 Sept 1809 went on to marry in 1832 to Betsey Wilkes b. 29 May 1814 at Mitcheldean.

I can go further back, all named Guy.

Guy Sindre was the youngest son of Guy Sindry of Lea b.27 Nov 1738, married Oct 1774 to Ann Lodge b.09 Aug 1751 at Brompton Abbots.

Then Guy Sindry b.26 Nov 1689 married Jane. He was the son of William c.1660 - 16 June 1731 and Margarett c.1660- 22 Apr 1740 who lived at Castle End, Lea where he was a farmer and church warden at St. John's, Lea.

I have tracked the young Guy c.1845 who is Guy Sindre's grandson. I have details if you are interested.

Thanks Ann for the Guy Sindery info.

Did Guy have a brother, because the Nailbridge history suggests the quarry was in the hands of a George Cindary (another one!).

Thanks again

After much searching using numerous spellings of the name I think this could be the family of GUY and SUSANNAH.

GEORGE b.01 Sep 1809 m. 07 Jul 1832 to Betsey(Elizabeth)WILKES B. 18 Aug 1811.

HENRY b.08 Mar 1812 m. 01 Jan 1837 at Awre to Mary Ann MOUNTJOY c.1814.

SAMUEL b.19 Jun 1814 m.Oct Nov Dec 1839 to Mary Ann BRAIN b.16 Dec 1821.

SUSANNAH b.09 Feb 1817 m.22 May 1842 to William JAMES b. 20 Jun 1813.

MARY ANN b.07 Nov 1819 had son, Guy b.12 Dec 1841, father N/K. Guy m.Dec 1867 to Rebecca PARSONS b.Jun 1846.

WILLIAM b.28 Jul 1822 m.22 Oct 1848 to Esther MEEK b.17 Dec 1826.

CHARLOTTE b.13 Feb 1825 m.06 Oct 1859 at Woodchester, Stroud to Timothy Barnes BLOSS of Coln St Denis. They kept the New Inn at Bourton on the Water.

ABIAH c.1827. Possibly m. Dec 1850 in Cheltenham to Joseph JOHNSON of Bristol.

After Guy SINDRE'S unforunate death 18 Mar 1832, (he was killed, when the beech tree he was felling, struck him.) Susannah remarried 04 Mar 1833 to widower, James WELCH and in the 1841 census Charlotte and Abiah are living with them at Hope Mansell. Brother William is a short distance away living with one of the MARFELL families.

Most of these SINDRY names were spelt with a "C".

Regards, Ann.

Were you able to check the church records? If so, could you tell me the result?

Thanks in advance

This ais a wonderful site - thank you to everyone who participates in it.
I am helping my friend with her family tree, her mother's great grandmother was Abiah Cindry or versions thereof (I cannot believe how many spellings I have found for this name). Abiah's parents were George and Elizabeth Cindry of Harry Hill, Drybrook. The information about George's antecedents is fascinating. Is it fact? Or should I advise my friend to check it all out at the Records Office?

Recently I was able to check the parish records at the Gloucester Records Office but found nothing to shed light on the identity of the quarry owner.

I would be interested to know your friend's line from Abiah. My wife is also descended from George and Elizabeth.

Hi Robert
Her Mother's maternal grandmother was Beatrice Hatton, daughter of Abiah Cindry and her husband, Thomas Hatton, they were landlords of the Crown Inn, Lea. I was not really concerned about the quarry business, I had just searched the name, hoping to find something
