researching Rose Attwood and nieces Agnes and Laura Robins (General)
Hi List,
I am researching Rose Attwood and her nieces Agnes and Laura Robins who in 1891 were living at number 68 Gloucester Road, Coleford.
Especially interested in Laura who later married William Robinson in 1900 and in 1905 I know she was living at number 5 Gloucester Road, Coleford.
Anyone researching the Robins family or any other info. would be appreciated.
Cheers Valerie

I had a quick look at this because, as a Robinson, I wondered if there was a connection to my tree but I've not found one. However, I don't think they lived at 68 Gloucester Road as the '68' on the census is the schedule number, not the street address. Just along the road was the Lamb Inn which was number 12 and that's shown as number 56 on the schedule.

Hi Valerie,
do you have any particular aspects you're hoping to learn about ?.
I ask as it's a shame if people spend time telling you things you already know, yet miss-out what you don't know.
Having said that, I'll start with what you probably already know, as it may help prompt other replies;

This list needs more work, eg maybe their marriages etc are within this FoD site's PRs ?
Also FreeBMD can easily confirm the dates and localities of the above records, and Marriages etc, such a shame the GlosBMD site is still underperforming.
eg, FreeBMD confirms what seemed likely on seeing the two "Agnes" birth records

Thank you Jeff for that info.
I did have some but not all that you have replied to me with. The purpose of my post was to gain more info. and to maybe flush out someone else that is researching this family.
Hopefully to get in touch with some of the descendants and hopefully they may have photos that they would be able to share with me.
Once again thank you, this is such a wonderful site.
Cheers
Valerie.

Hi Valerie
I've followed up on this a bit more even though there seems to be no connection to my tree. The one thing I found that maybe of interest is two records of Laura and William travelling to Argentina. I know they had connections there. The dates I have are 26 Mar 1908 from Liverpool and 8 Jul 1919 from London. The 1908 one appears to show them traveling with two other Robinsons. From their ages, one might be a daughter of Laura and William the other might be a son from William's earlier marriage.
You can find some details on my Ancestry tree at https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/tree/109839494/family (assuming you use Ancestry which I thought you do as I think I found your tree).

Thank you for taking the time to look this up for me. I certainly did not have the shipping info. from London to Argentina....I will have to subscribe to Ancestry again and look at that but I do have the rest. Yes William and Laura used to go out to Buenos Aires on regular trips as William's mother Emily and father William Robinson emigrated there in April 1889 on the German steamer Graf Bismark. Emily's husband William died after a few years living there. My Grandfather John Shaw was born there in 1892 to Adelaide Robinson and John James Shaw.
Incidentally how did you know of the connection to Argentina.
Many thanks for you input,
Kind regards
Valerie

I found the Argentine connection through the fact William's Father died there.
I also found some other possible records of Laura continuing to travel there after William's death but I couldn't confirm it was actually her and not another Laura Robinson.

Valerie, if you're in the UK then free access to Ancestry is available in most public librairies. It doesn't have all the features of the home editions, but I believe it does include Immigration records. Furthermore I've found the LDS aka FamilySearch site has many shipping records to America including original images, plus some records for South America, and all are free to access so FamilySearch may be worth trying.
Good luck, J

Hi Valerie,
Several other bits of information have turned up as a result of finding the passenger records.
Laura did travel back and forth to Argentina several more times after William's death. I don't have all the records but I have the following for her:
Departure - 10 May 1906 • Liverpool, England
Departure - 26 Mar 1908 • Liverpool, England
Arrival - 7 Feb 1914 • Southampton, England
Departure - 8 Jul 1919 • London, England
Arrival - 4 Aug 1923 • Liverpool, England
Arrival - 21 Nov 1926 • Southampton, England
Departure - 4 Mar 1927 • Southampton, England
Arrival - 2 Feb 1932 • Southampton, England
Departure - 24 Sep 1932 • Southampton, England
Arrival - 9 Feb 1937 • Southampton, England
The 1908 departure shows her travelling with William and John Robinson (single) and Rosa Robinson (under 12 years).
The 1914 arrival shows her travelling with Rosa Robinson aged 19 which would put her birth as 1895 - before Laura and William were married so maybe both children are from William's first marriage (though the name Rosa suggests otherwise).
Several of the records of Laura travelling after William's death show her UK address as 29 Gwern Berthi Road, Abertillery. The 1939 register shows an Agnes E Wilse living at that address with William J Wilse so looks like Laura was living with her sister Agnes (note several variations of the spelling of the road name exist).
Hope that helps.
