William TUFFLEY / SMITH - 1856 Ashleworth (General)

William Tuffley is my Great Grandfather, who drowned in the River Severn in 1902. He was a nasty piece of work and was either fined or spent time in prison for either stealing, fighting, drunk, poaching and being a general nuisance. He even beat up his father-in-law Richard Hyett and put him in hospital. There was the start of a county court case which was adjourned as Richard was not able to attend the case. As far as I can make out Richard would not press the charges that the Police wanted to bring ( I can't say I blame him)
A relative recently told me that they must have put out the bunting in the village of Ashleworth when William Tuffley was dragged out dead at Ashleworth Quay
However, Richard Hyett was not much better as he spent time in Glos Prison for stealing some cross-cut saws from an auction and getting drunk.
Their story is worthy of a TV series
