Hi Ivor,
thanks for your kind words, it was my pleasure. Sorry to be telling you that some of the Gundys were not the most law-abiding, altho of course these were difficult times and maybe they were just people on low or no incomes who were just trying to feed themselves as best they could, not unusual at all in those times including some of my own ancestors too. Those old newspapers can indeed be very interesting, altho sadly for us they often relate to unpleasant events.

Yes, clearly Walter was a very popular "traditional" name in the Gundy families.

Here's another story from the old newspapers which may be relevant to your lines;

"MONMOUTH.
Accidents.— Sunday last a poor woman named Elizabeth Gundy, residing at the Kymin, met with serious accident in consequence of her clothes taking fire, by which she was so dreadfully burnt, that little hopes are entertained of her recovery. On the same day, a child named Thomas Gould, residing with his parents at Doward, was burnt in a most shocking manner by his clothes taking fire. Death almost immediately terminated his sufferings, before medical assistance could be obtained."

17 February 1844 - Hereford Times - Hereford

-------------

I've searched the FMP and FamilySearch sites for more Marriage Records for Walter Gundy & Sarah Pratt 30/nov/1749 in Ross, hoping they might include fathers' names, but sadly I cannot find any more records.
I have found this Marriage Record from the ever-helpful and highly-recommended FamilySearch site, it's the earliest Herefordshire record I've found for a Walter Gundy and isn't included within this FoD site's PRs. FamilySearch also has these related baptisms.

Name Walter Gundy
Spouse's Name Mary Marsh
Event Date 04 Jun 1686
Event Place Ross, Hereford, England

Name Mary Gundy
Gender Female
Christening Date 31 Jan 1686
Christening Place ROSS, HEREFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND
Father's Name Walter Gundy
Mother's Name Mary

Name John Gundy
Gender Male
Christening Date 1688
Christening Place ROSS, HEREFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND
Father's Name Walter Gundy
Mother's Name Mary

Hoping this helps. As with my earlier post, I recommend using FamilySearch to find all records for "GUNDY" in "Ross Herefordshire" between say "1600-1750" etc, to get a good idea of the various GUNDY families in Ross in that era, and so to get clues as to who fits where, hopefully including the Walter who married Sarah Pratt. It might also be wise to repeat this search in neighbouring "Gloucestershire" and then "Monmouthshire".
Once you have names of a couple, probably the quickest way to find their children is using this site's Advanced Search, which yields many groups such as these, for example;

Surname, Child Forenames, Fathers & Mothers Forenames, Parish Chapel

1671 GUNDY John, Walter & Sybell, Ross on Wye
1674 GUNDY Elizabeth, Walter & Sybell,Ross on Wye
1679 GUNDY Tobyas, Walter & Sybell, Ross on Wye
1682 GUNDY Stephen, Walter & Sybell, Ross on Wye

1704 GUNDY Walter, Walter & Esther, Ross on Wye
1706 GUNDY William, Walter & Esther, Ross on Wye

etc etc
