I have found this most tragic accident which featured in the Man of Ross & General Advertiser dated 16th August 1866:-
"A sad accident occurred at the Plump Hill, near Mitcheldean, on Wednesday evening. A man named Thomas Baylis had been engaged that day in getting out the foundations of a new cottage. A short time after he had left work some boys got his tools and amused themselves in working in the excavation which Baylis had made. They had not been there very long before a quantity of earth gave way and the three of them were buried beneath it. They were got out as soon as assistance could be procured but, we are sorry to say, the whole of them were dead. The names of the children are:- Caleb Perkins, aged 14, son of John Perkins; George Porter, aged 12, son of John Porter; and Charles Barnard, aged 9, son of Ann Parry. An inquest was opened by Mr Teague on Saturday, and adjourned."
