Given Mike's findings re Amos' occupation and the children's schooling, its interesting that searching the web for Blackpool Cottage Mitcheldean not only suggests it's still there, but it's home to an education business called "Shepherd's Purse" !

I'm not a subscriber so cannot obtain further details, but GenesReunited suggests Amos was in trouble with the school authorities again in 1909.

"Gloucester Journal Gloucestershire, England
29 May 1909

"...; Amos Goulding, farm labourer Mitcheldean; Arthur Taylor, oollier. Fumaccf Cinderford; and Jesse Trigg, collier, Heywood lane. Cinderford. were summoned for against the Education Act."
