I have been trying to find out what happened to my grandfather's cousin, Charles Watkins, son of Arthur and Rhoda (nee Smith), born in West Dean. I can find no trace of him after the 1891 census when he was living in Palmers Flat with his widowed father, brother Howard and sisters Edith,Julia and and Elsie. I'd appreciate any information anyone might have.
Thank you, Gill Chant

GR 1911 Census, Registration District St George, Hanover Square, London

Charles WATKIN, 38, Single, Dock Labourer, born Gloucestershire, Calford (mistranscription – should be Colford)

This person seems to be in a hostel run by the Salvation Army although I can’t be entirely sure of that. There are Salvation Army employees on earlier pages.

Mike,
FamilySearch decribes it as a "Salvation Army Shelter".

IF he'd been serving in the Forces, and/or at sea, in 1901, would that be shown on a census ?

Hi Gill,
Have you found the rest of his family in the later Census' (if still alive) ?.
For elusive characters that the websites seem to have lost, they can sometimes be found when searching their immediate family and their neighbours.
