Badden's Field Yorkley (General)

by glostergirl, (2465 days ago)

Hi

My 5th great Uncle Richard Wade Hook is on the 1847 electoral register and is noted as living at Badden's Field Yorkley. His father (my 6th great grandfather) was a gentleman, also called Richard. Richard Snr is noted also as a farmer.

Im wondering if anyone knows where in Yorkley is Badden's Field?

Many thanks

Trina

Also shown as Badhamsfield on this Lloyd George's survey of land values 1909 map (top left hand corner)https://www.glos1909survey.org.uk/maps/Box39/D2428-3-39-15.jpg but if you enter the hereditament number 1392, place Newland, and tax parish Coleford in the appropriate boxes in "search by hereditament number" on this search page https://www.glos1909survey.org.uk/code/search.php it returns Baddenfield.

Badhamsfield was mentioned a few times in this recent post.

And again in this post which suggest's, not surprisingly, that it takes it's name from an owner or tenant named Badham. This site's PR database contains over 350 Badham, altho of course not as early as the 1300s. I think the earliest is 1570, at Ledbury, where many of the earlier Badham PRs are from, but the name does eventually occur all across the area. There will of course be spelling variations too, eg some BADAMs in Newland c1570.
