Hi Diane,
The Littledean trade directory for 1894 includes James Haines, blacksmith.
http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~cbennett/genealogy/littledean1894.htm

Harriet's father John Palmer, tailor of Littledean Rd Newnham, is in these Newnham editions from 1842 and 1876.

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~cbennett/genealogy/newnham1842.htm

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~cbennett/genealogy/newnham1876.htm

These and several other FoD directories may be found here;
http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~cbennett/genealogy/index.htm

I see a Mrs Catherine Palmer is listed within the Nobility/Gentry section of the 1842 Newnham directory; I wonder if this could be a relation ?

----

This Shirenewton directory for 1895 includes Oliver Haines, jobbing mason of Mynyddbch;
another relative perhaps ?

I am looking for any information on a James Haynes/Haines 1840 occupation Blacksmith. I believe he married Harriet Palmer they had 4 children.

James's Father was also James Haynes/Haines occupation Stone Mason I think he was married to a Caroline Gwynell/Gingell.

I think his father was John Haynes/ Haines about 1781

Hi Diane,
I've been tracing my Haines ancestors for some while, just using Freecen, parish records and the LDS website.
My records have James Haines 1816-1849 married to Caroline Gwynell 1819- living in Mynyddbach, Shirenewton, a stonemason and their children, James 1840 Sarah 1842, Elijah 1844-1847,Susannah 1846-, Abraham 1847.
James father was John Haines Snr. 1774 and mother Susanna !773 living at Devauden green.
John Haines was a stonemason and the owner of land in Devauden and also a tenant of lands of His Grace the Duke of Beaufort (Welsh tythe Maps 1841). He also owned the Masons Arms,(see Web site) Devauden Green around 1800
John Jnr.,married Ann James and had several children, one of whom was Oliver 1842-1900, listed and known to be a stonemason (I think most of the family were) living at Mynyddbach. One of his children was Arthur, my grandfather 1872-1937. His son, my father
together with two daughters were born at Mynyddbach
I hope this will give some encouragement. Also be interested to know if you are connected.
Best wishes Richard Haines,Cowbridge,Vale of Glamorgan

Hi Richard, thank you for your information. My link to the Haines family is through Sarah Haines. Sarah is my 2nd Great grandmother she married a William Hayward and they had about 7 children one of them being Esther Selina, who is my Great Grandmother. Esther Selina married James Richard Ibell. They had about 6 children one being Jesse James Ibell who is my grandfather. Jesse married Margaret Blodwen James. They live in Pontypridd. They had 7 children, one being my dad Mervyn Ernest Ibell. Jesse married twice. Violet May Cook and they had Hazel Ibell.

I was also inquiring for another person who contacted me as we had a match through DNA they were looking for information one the Haines family. We were also trying to find Susannah maiden
I need to correct some of the dates and information in my tree.

Kind Regard

Hi Diane, Happy new year.
I'm back on the Haines trail, at least for the time being!
The final bit of your last post was incomplete, but I think it asks for the maiden name of John Haines wife Susannah.
I recently (last week) found a great deal of info. relating to Susanna(h) on Family search (the Mormon web site)
Susanna's maiden name appears to be Beardsley, originally from Ileston in Derbyshire.
It seem that John and Susanna were married there in 1805 and their son John II although born in Devauden,in 1806, was christened in 1816 also in Ilkeston.
The info. on Family Search links back to a Richard Blundeston who married a Haslake in 1450.
So far as John I is concerned, Susanna's husband,I'm still hunting for his parents.
If you come across any lead, I'll be grateful if you would keep me in the loop.
Keep safe and best wishes,
Richard Haines.

Hi Richard do you have Susannah Beardsley parents? I now have a Edward Beardsley 1759 -1815 & Ann Holmes 1760- 1832. Ann's parents are John Holmes & Ann Hensen 1735 -1832.
Not sure if this is right but it seems to match up.

John Haines 1781 parents I think could be Henry Haynes/Haines & Mary?

Kind Regards

Hi Diane ,
I have just come across your thread . I am also researching the Haines/Haynes family of the Shirenewton area having been DNA linked to them through at least 2 persons.
I have a concern with Susan's maiden name which I believe is incorrect , in that 1-John & Susan had a daughter MARY baptized on 22ndJune1800 at St Peter's church (where their other children were baptized) , that 2-on the 1851 census Susan states her birth place to be Chepstow , Monmouthshire , and after doing family history now for over 30yrs , I have found that in 90% of marriages the marriage took place at the bride's Parish .
I have found several Susans/Susannahs baptized in the 1770's in Chepstow (not a single Beardsley) whose families I am now researching to see if I can find a family link .
