Hi all,
I've just found the following radio programme on the BBC iPlayer website which may be of interest. It was first broadcast in 1989.

"Glyn Worsnip in the Forest of Dean
Down Your Way

It's broadcaster Glyn Worsnip's regret that he isn't a child of the Forest of Dean.

Born just outside its boundaries, he can never be a 'verderer' or a 'ship badger' but can only marvel at the rights and customs of this ancient and beautiful landscape twixt Severn and Wye...."

The programme starts with a visit to Clearwell caves, near Glyn's home in his latter years. Throughout the programme he meets several local people so hear some good examples of Forest dialect. In the background of some of these outdoor interviews we can also hear the calls of the sheep that was the norm before they were culled due to the awful foot and mouth outbreaks.

Members may remember Glyn became a household name in the 1970s as a member of the popular "Thats Life" tv show. At that time I loved the programme but had no idea he was a local lad, having been born at Highnam near Gloster and attended Monmouth School. I'm saddened to learn that by the time Glyn made this programme he was already suffering the illness that stopped his broadcasting career and eventually killed him in 1996 aged just 58.
