Board School, Plump Hill (General)

by adlinferris @, Thursday, December 19, 2019, 18:31 (1799 days ago)

I am lead to believe that my great grandmother, was ordered to send my grandfather and one of his siblings to the Board school, Plump Hill, early 1900's. Is there any records of the children that attended and any other information about this school.

Thanks, Linda

There is an old link from 'Slowhands' etc - 24 April 2012

Plump Hill School is, I believe, in Jubilee Road, off Plump Hill, which is now an environmental education centre....

Pump Hill Centre Plump Hill School was opened by the school board in 1878 with 151 places in junior mixed and infants' departments which merged in 1883. More classrooms were added in 1890. The school was closed in 1984, the children being transferrred to schools in Mitcheldean, Littledean, and Westbury-on-Severn. The building was used as an environemental centre.

Hi, My mother's first proper job was teaching at the Plump school - that would have been around 1927 when she was 16 or so. She had to leave when she married my dad in 1932, as married women weren't allowed to work in that sort of job at the time. I'm not sure how she got there from Ruardean. Caught the Gloucester bus through Drybrook, got off at the top of the Stenders and walked through the woods, perhaps.

Cheers
