Charles Barnard/Barrett Occupation & Injury (General)

HI all,

I know I'm not the only one digging around in Charles' life, so mybe somebody here has alreasy investigated this and found some answers. I've included both surnames just for clarity.

Looking at various censuses it looks as though Charles was seriously injured around 1857/8 - maybe in a mining accident? In 1861 his occupation, we think (the census is very faded), is given as 'Former Iron Miner'. By 1871 there is a note saying (again, this is a best guess) 'Cripple 13 Yrs'. In 1881 he is designated as 'Afflicted'.

I wondered if anyone has had any success in identifying the details of his injury and/or how he came by it? I have been looking but have, so far, come up empty.

Hi Karen

I'm also researching the Barnards.... which branch does your Charles belong to? I have several Charles Barnard men in my database.
