Thanks slowhands. Sorry about the delay in replying.I have all the info you have supplied including Thomas Frederick's Birth cert.on which there is no Father named.Emma had another child named Fred (my GF) and the father is not named on his Birth cert either. I realise that the two Emma's may not be the same person but it is intriguing! I can't find any info on TF other than his Birth Cert. Again many thanks.

I have not checked it out throughly but I have a hunch that Emma WOODWARD and
Emma WATKINS who is listed on a couple of censuses as being the daugher of
Esther WATKINS are the same person the year of birth matches up.
According to censuses Esther WATKINS (sister to Eve who married Frederick
WOODWARD) had 7 children all out of wedlock one of those being my
great-grandfather Joseph. I have only been able to find a birth record of Oliver
the youngest of which I have the birth certificate the fathers name is given as
Esther WATKINS.
The other 6 children of Esther I have been unable to find any trace anywhere of
any birth records. My theory is that not all these children were born to Esther
but she was the person who looked after many of the children who were born out
of wedlock of other family members.

Emma Woodward is definitely the daughter of Frederick Woodward & Eve Watkins. I have the birth cert.
Thomas Frederick Woodward* is Emma's son and was born at 6 Clifton St. Easton Bristol on 5/5/1892. On the 1901 he is living with his aunt Eliza Dance(nee Woodward) at Ruardean Hill. Eliza,who was employed as a servant in 1891 at 35/36 Caledonian Place Bristol, m. William Henry Dance in 1892.
In 1901 Emma was living in Royston S.Yorks where I was born.
Eve Watkins (Woodward) married Thomas Pratt in 1888 after Frederick's death and in 1901 was living at East Dean and Frederick (my GF)was living with her.
A Kate Woodward,whom I have not as yet connected directly to my line,married James Mills in 1877.On the 1891 census her daughter Elizabeth M Mills is living at 28 Blenheim Rd Barton St Mary in Gloucester with her Aunt Elizabeth who is Kate's sister.
*I could really do with finding descendents of TFW who could possibly help solve the mystery!

Joseph WATKINS my great-grandfather (brother to Emma) who as far as I know
always lived in the Forest but married at Clifton Bristol in 1890 to Elizabeth MILLS.
Joseph and Elizabeth after their marriage lived the rest of their lives in the
Forest.
Emma WATKINS and William PEDRICK were witnesses to the marriage and Joseph's
father was given as John WATKINS deceased. John was his grandfathers name and
probably was used for convenience.
How did Joseph a coal miner from Ruardean come about marrying a girl from
Bristol?

William BLATCHFORD (born about 1853) married Mary WATKINS at the Register Office at Westbury on Severn in 1877, the father of William was Giles BLATCHFORD.
Indeed you seem to have roots crossing from the Bristol and Somerset coal fields...
