William FROWEN Newland 1799/1800 & associated thread

by Philippa, Monday, January 15, 2007, 01:38 (6524 days ago) @ slowhands

Thanks for that - but now I'm confused (doesn't take much!)

I have William Frowen as being born in 1799, but the records show he married Elizabeth in 1799, but then I think Elizabeth was born in 1781 so I have probably got my dates wrong.

Thank you also for the link, looks like I have other realtions searching for Frowens which is fantastic, would love to get in contact with you.

I've just gone back and checked the children I have for William and Elizabeth and looked at the Parish Records, those listed on the thread you pointed me to are:-

George baptised 1804
Thomas
Ann
Hannah baptised 1812
John baptised 1814
Susanah
Henry baptised 1818 - my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather
James baptised 1824

(I can't find dates, at first glance, for the others)

I also have William and Edward from another source which are not on this list.

I have gone back and looked at the cenus info for these people and need to be sure of the names of the wives and husbands before I can be certain, does anyone have these people firmly in their tree?

Many thanks, fantastic and helpful site!!

Hi Phillipa

William and Elizabeth are my g g g grandparents. My grandfather was Leslie John Frowen, his father was Henry born 1854, his father was Henry born 1818, and his father was your William. I will email you with a genealogy report of the families I have. Bear with me though, it will be later this evening.

As yet I don't have William's siblings.

I have been in touch with Janice, who has also replied to your message but can't find a connection to her at the moment.

Sorry, not sure but have we made contact before, are you related to Stephanie?

Hi Simone

Thank you, I was hoping you would get in contact! We are closer than you think as Henry b 1854 and Hannah b1854? are my Gt Gt Grandparents, I am from their second son, William. It would be lovely to see what else you have and I am more than happy to share what I have, although I suspect you already have most of it judging by your postings.

I don't think we have been in contact before and I don't think I have been in contact with Stephanie either.

I have looked to see if I have a Fredrick Frowen for you Janice, but the only one I can find was born in 1885 so not likely to be the same one, but at the moment I have only gone up to the 1901 cenus.

Hi Philippa

Uncle Bill Chepstow!!!!?? :) ( or Uncle Bill Monmouth, as he was known to my mum!!)

I have William as first son though. I have a copy of a page from Hannah Maria's bible with all the children listed. I also have photo of Henry and Hannah and a couple of newspaper cuttings.

I am going to email you shortly, just trying to sort the report so you don't get a load of family who aren't yours!

Dont suppose anyone has any links to a Mary Frowen born abt 1789 in Longhope? She went on to marry Thomas Rhodes in 1810 in Newland but already had a son who became William Frowen Rhodes. In later years he founded the Cinderford baptist church (see article elsewhere on this site) Possible parents for Mary are Thomas & Jane but I have not confirmed this yet.

If no particular links, how common is Frowen as a surname in these parts at this time or any hints as to where it comes from.

I've got A Charles Frowen and Anne Smith who had a daughter Mary, but that was c 1762. I don't, as yet, have any other info on her, but I'll have a search this afternoon and see if I can unearth anything to take her out of the list of possabilities.

Simone - my e mail is playing up and I don't know if the link to a battle role of honours got through to you. Just in case -

Do you think the Ernest Frowen listed is our Ernest????

Ernest Frowen

by Simone @, Wednesday, January 24, 2007, 04:23 (6515 days ago) @ Philippa

Hi Phillipa

I don't recognise Ernest Harry Frowen on the site you gave me. I know that my grandfather's brother Ernest b 1882 survived the war. Ernest's sons, Ernest b 1901 and Albert b c 1912, were both killed in WW2. Apparantly they suffered a direct hit at 94 Clay Lane, Coventry in 1940. Ernest died immediately and Albert died 4 months later from the shock we believe.
I've seen reference to them on a couple of sites though, like this one

Thanks Simone, I wasn't sure.

I have seen that website before when doing Google searches for the name, but because I didn't know some of the family had moved to Coventry I discounted it. Thanks again

Hi Ashton

I can't find any link in my tree.

Frowen seems to be very common in the Firest at that time.

Our family was always told that the name had it's origins in Germany, although I've never had any proof of it.

Alledgedly my g grandmother Hannah Maria, when she was annoyed, always referred to her husnband Henry as 'that ****** German'. He was born in the Forest though and his father and Grandfather before him!

Simone, I must tell my mother that, it sounds like she would of liked her g g grandmother!

Have you already discounted our Mary? I won't dig around if you have.

Philippa

Did you get the info I emailed to you? Is your connection definitely the same as mine? You mentioned Thomas previously being your gg grandfather?

I don't have Thomas b 1847 as a son to Henry b 1854 and Hannah Maria, but Thomas is son of Henry b 1818 and Maria (nee Powell), i.e he is the brother of Henry b 1854. Thomas married Eliza and moved to Wales, although Eliza seems to be in the Forest on her own later on.

If you would like me to send the reports via normal post I don't mind if you don't mind emailing me your postal address. I'll send a copy of the page from Hannah Maraia's bible too and a photo of her husband Henry. I have one of her also but can't find it at the mo. Will have to wait until my sister brings a copy at the weekend.

From what you say, I think that my Henry b 1854 and Hannah Maria b 1854, late Bending nee Wright, are brother and sister-in-law to your Thomas.

By the way Hannah was known as Hannah 'Ma-rye-a', to the family, if you can understand that poor effort at trying to illustrate pronunciation!

Got to pop out now, back later.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Simone

Thanks, I did get everything but I am having trouble sending and receving e mails as my laptop is fading away!

My line is:-

Charles m Anne Smith

William m Elizabeth Aston

Henry m Maria Powell

Thomas b 1849 m Elizabeth Kersley b 1854

William b 1879 m Priscilla Williams b 1870

Then my grandmother and her 7 siblings

Thomas moved to Llanharan in Glamorgan sometime between 1891 and 1901 and most of his sons seem to have gone with him with a couple of the girls. I haven't sorted this out yet, but it seems that Elizabeth may well of stayed in the Forest.

Once my e mail problems are sorted I will send you all the info I have along with my address, I would love to have a copy of the bible, thank you.

Actually, it would be really nice to talk to you, so I'll e mail my telephone number as well if you want to get in touch.

Hi Philipa

Do you have Charles ans Ann as William's parents then? Must admit I haven't done much further lately because I've been tied up doing a tree as a favour for a friend.

Just to clarify my line is

William Frowen b m Elizabeth Aston

Henry b 1818 m Maria Powell

Henry b 1854 (that **** German) m Hannah Maria Wright 1854 (late Bending, nee Wright)

Leslie John Frowen b 1893 m Annie Louisa Howell b 1899- my grandparents

So my gg grandparents are your ggg grandparents

Will wait to hear from you

Hi

Just realised that I don't have a DOB or DOD for William Frowen, just the date of his marriage to Elizabeth Aston. I've looked at the records but can't find him there. Anyone able to help?

Thanks
