Richard Fryer of Overton Arlingham 1620 (Parish Records)

Further to my previous thoughts, there is an interesting baptism of John Fryer (1598 -), where only his mother's name is given as Anne (her maiden name appears to be Hiles). Perhaps the father died before John was born? John does not appear to be listed as a base child.

In the lack of further evidence, it would appear that this John married Agnes Butt at Arlingham on 23 Sep 1617. A daughter, Anne, was baptised at Arlingham in 1618.

The family then crossed the River Severn, as three sons were baptised at Westbury on Severn and the residence is given as Rodley, which is on the opposite bank to Arlingham. Apparently there is an Arlington Passage, which allowed people to cross between Arlingham and Newnham at low tide, which would have been in use in the early 1600s.

The three sons of John and Agnes were: John (1620 - ), Thomas (1623 - ) and Richard (1626 - ).

The latter, Richard Fryer (1626 - ), is my 8th gt-grandfather, whom I was trying to identify.
