Church of the Holy Jesus - Lydbrook (General)

by kthatch, Tuesday, February 13, 2007, 12:43 (6494 days ago)

I would like to find out if this church is still in use. If someone is familiar with this church, would you please let me know if it has changed much, and if there are interior pictures of it anywhere?

Also, has anyone come across a picture of Rev. Henry Hoitt?

Thank you very much for you help.

Sincerely,
K. Thatcher

In the Lydbrook section of the Photo Gallery you can view two pictures of the church

In the Stories and Articles section you will find an article titled:

which gives many details about the church

My grandparents were married in Lydbrook parish church in 1896. The vicar was H.T.Hoitt. Was this the church called Holy Jesus?

Sylvia

The parish church of Lydbook is called the Church of the Holy Jesus. If you read the History of Lydbrook which I mentioned in my previous message above you will find Rev. H.T.Hoitt mentioned in the list of priests at the church.

Hi
Thank you for the info. I wasnt sure if Holy Jesus was the only parish church in Lydbrook as it seemed to be in Joys Green rather than Lydbrook . But of course, Joys Green is a part of Lydbrook, isn`t it?
Thanks again and best wishes

Holy Jesus is down in the valley ( central Lydbrook) ,Vention, Joys Green, Horse Lea ,Moorwood, Reddings etc all sit up above Holy Jesus.

Joys Green Rd leads into Church Hill and Church Rd, as you drive down from Joys Green towards Holy Jesus.

My husband's ancestors were married there in 1874 by Henry T. Hoitt, Vicar. Their entry in the old family bible reads "Married at the Church of the Holy Jesus, in the Parish of Lydbrook, Dean Forest, in the County of Gloucester..."

I would love to see pictures of the inside of the parish.

My mums family are buried in the church. Does anyone have a contact for the vicar or know of any burial plans of the churchyard please? Would like to find Dulcie and Roland Evans, their young son Royston and also Godfrey Morgan.
