Norah TAYLOR - Burial records for the Westbury Workhouse ? (General)

by Royal Oak, Friday, March 16, 2007, 04:33 (6464 days ago)

Hi.
I am looking for the Burial Records for the Westbury on Severn Workhouse. My grandfather's first wife Norah Taylor(nee Brain)was admitted to the workhouse for medical care but died a few days later (18/5/1913). She was probably buried in a pauper's grave, I do not know if the workhouse had it's own burial ground or if the Westbury on Severn Church yard was used.
I have looked at the Westbury Workhouse books at the Record Office in Gloucester but could not find any reference to this.

I would appreciate any help

Hi Jim

Yes the same Norah Brain that married Leonard Taylor (16/9/1901) at the Forest Church. I cannot find where poor Norah was buried. She is the only Brain in my family tree that I have found so far. I hope you might have some information?

I look forward to your reply

Norah TAYLOR - Burial records for the Westbury Workhouse ?

I don't know whether there are any. My paternal GGrandmothers father (James Evans 1817 - 1907) died in Westbury Workhouse. I picked him up in St John's, Cinderford Burial Register 13 August 1907. From there I went to Westbury Union Records in GCR. There was no mention of his death, or anyone elses as far as I remember.

I don't know why he was in the Workhouse. He had family in Soudley and probably in Newnham. He had been a cordwainer (Newnham Tradesmen lists) and a Policeman at Newnham from 1841 to mid 1850's.
