Hi Gallus

Firstly for reasons of your own security, I would suggest you edit your entry and delete your email address. People wishing to contact you by email can do so by clicking the email box. Your address being displayed openly can be picked up by machines trawling for addresses.

My main interest is the Marfell Family, but I tend to record the siblings and parents of spouses so I have a number of connections that may be of interest:

(1) Thomas Woolley born 1865 married Naomi Jane Marfell born 1865 at Weston under Penyard 30.10.1888. Thomas Woolley had a brother William Easthope Woolley born 1867 who married Sophia Wintle born 1864. Sophia being the daughter of Thomas Wintle & Mary Jane Coleman. William Easthope Woolley & Sophia Wintle had a son Charles Percy Woolley born 1889 who married Phylis Maud Wintle born 1894, daughter of Thomas Clark Wintle born 1867 & Emily Fanny Hart born 1866.

(2) Sarah Ann Yemm born 5.12.1860 married John Brain born 1856 who is related to me. William Yemm born 18.10.1857(who later changed his surname to Bosley) married Lucy Baldwin born 4.8.1858 who is related to me - the parents of this Sarah Ann Yemm and William Yemm were Emanual Yemm born 26.11.1804 & Sarah Wintle. Sarah being the daughter of Joseph Wintle & Elizabeth.

(3) Susannah Knight Addis born 1800 married George Marfell born 1804, Susannah Knight Addis being the daughter of Jonathon Addis born 1762 & Ann Wintle born 5.8.1762, Ann Wintle being the daughter of Jonathon Wintle & Ann Wintle.

If you trawl back through the notice board you will find details of the Wintle family, plus photographs in the photo gallery.

Thankyou Jim,
I did as you suggested & edited my message.
The Wintle line is a confusing one to me and I only come back to it now & then.
Your names of Marfell and Coleman are in my lot too, but not your ones you mentioned.
My GGG grandmothers mothers name was Mary Wintle b abt 1871, she married John Wilkins in 1796 at Westbury on Severn-they had 8children, one being my ggg g/mother Ann Wilkins who in turn married Henry Farmer.

Mary Wintle Wilkins parents were Jonathan Wintle and Ann ?

WINTLE and YEMM

by Sophronia, Tuesday, May 22, 2007, 10:32 (6397 days ago) @ jimashton

H Jim,

Your posting interested me, especially this paragraph:

(2) Sarah Ann Yemm born 5.12.1860 married John Brain born 1856 who is related to me. William Yemm born 18.10.1857(who later changed his surname to Bosley) married Lucy Baldwin born 4.8.1858 who is related to me - the parents of this Sarah Ann Yemm and William Yemm were Emanual Yemm born 26.11.1804 & Sarah Wintle. Sarah being the daughter of Joseph Wintle & Elizabeth.

I have Emanuel YEMM born 26 Nov 1801, Abenhall, Gloucester married to Sarah WINTLE baptised 4 Jul 1804 Mitcheldean, Gloucester in my family tree. But I have the birth date of their daughter Sarah Ann as 20 Aug 1837. Was this an earlier Sarah Ann who died? I would think that another child born in 1860 would belong to the next generation, as Emanuel & Sarah married in 1824.

Can you clarify this for me?

YEMM and BRAIN

by Dewey, Tuesday, May 22, 2007, 11:51 (6397 days ago) @ Sophronia

Hi Nancy,
Wiliam Yemm and Lucy Baldwin are my grandparents. The Sarah Ann Yemm who married John Brain was his sister. William and Sarah Ann were children of John and Sarah (nee Williams) Yemm. John then was the son of Emanuel and Sarah. The 1837 Sarah you have would have been a sister of John although I have her listed as Jane.
It was not only William who changed his name to Bosley, all the descendents of Emanuel and Sarah seem to have made the same change in the late 1800s.

YEMM and BRAIN

by Sophronia, Tuesday, May 22, 2007, 13:50 (6397 days ago) @ Dewey

HI Dewey,

Many thanks for giving me this information. I have now entered the brief details you gave into my genealogy program, and will attempt to get further information.

I have the following citations for the birth/baptism of my earlier Sarah Ann YEMM:

Sarah Ann YEM baptised 20 Aug 1837 Abenhall, Gloucester. Parents Amanuel & Sarah YEMM. Father's Occ: Lab. Residence Abinghall, Gloucester. (FofD)
Sarah Ann YEMM registered 3rd Qtr 1837 Westbury on Severn Vol 11, Pg 33(FreeBMD)

There was a death registered for Sarah YEMM buried 22 Feb 1845, age 5, Abenhall, Gloucester. Residence East Dean. (FofD) But my Sarah Ann YEMM would have been about 8 in 1845, so I'm not sure who this is.

I also have three Jane YEMMs born to Emanuel YEMM & Sarah WINTLE as follows:

Jane YEMM baptised 27 Aug 1837 Mitchel Dean, Gloucester. Parents Emanuel & Sarah YEMM. Father's Occ: Lab (FofD)
Jane YEMM baptised 21 Jul 1835 Abenhall, Gloucester. Parents Emanuel & Sarah YEMM. Father's Occ: Lab. Place of Residence Abinghall, Gloucester. (FofD)
Jane YEM baptised 20 Aug 1837 Abenhall, Gloucester. Parents Emanuel & Sarah YEMM. Father's Occ: Lab. Residence Abinghall, Gloucester. (FofD)

(FofD) means I obtained the information from the Forest of Dean website.

Perhaps the first two died young. I haven't looked for death records yet.

My main interest here is in the WINTLE family. If you have any information in that branch of this family tree, I'd be pleased to hear about it.

YEMM and BRAIN

by Barbara Edmonds, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 20:34 (5367 days ago) @ Dewey

I am going to have a nervous breakdown !!!! I am researching my nieces tree for her. Part of her tree takes in Lucy Baldwin and William Yemm married 21.6. 1879.
Some trees on Ancestry.com have William Bosley Yemm entered as Lucy's husband. Where did the Bosley come from ? I think the above Lucy married plain William Yemm, but am so confused.

Also there is a Lucy Ann Baldwin, boarding with Thomas Yemm in 1881. So couldn't be the same Lucy as she would have been a Yemm by then.

Could someone please tell me which Lucy belongs to whom, and who are her parents ?
My brain is completely addled !

If anyone can help....

I would be so pleased.

Regards

Barbara

YEMM and BRAIN

Hi Barbara

You need to be more specific about which Lucy Baldwin, I have 7 Lucy Baldwin's apart from any that became Lucy Baldwin by marriage. Regarding the 1881 Census, I have a Lucy Baldwin baptised Mitcheldean 22 July 1960, daughter of George Baldwin & Jane Burris who married Timothy Marfell in 1883, she was a servant in 1881 :

1881 Census
Dwelling: Hyde Court
Census Place: Minchinhampton, Gloucester, England
Source: FHL Film 1341615 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 2549 Folio 113 Page 14
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
Dorothea M. BEALE W 80 F London, Middlesex, England
Rel: Head
Occ: Annuitant
Mary Henrietta BEALE U 54 F Stratford, Essex, England
Rel: Daur
Occ: Dividends
Elizabeth GERARD U 27 F Wexford, Ireland
Rel: Visitor
Occ: Governess
Eleanor BAKER U 26 F Mangotsfield, Gloucester, England
Rel: Serv
Occ: Nurse Domestic
Lucy BALDWIN U 21 F Mitcheldean, Gloucester, England
Rel: Serv
Occ: Cook Domestic

Another Lucy baptised Abenhall 15 Mar 1861 daughter of David Baldwin & Mary Ann Malson who married Edward Charles Davis in 1885.

Of course Lucy Baldwin 1858 was already married to William Yemm/Bosley so would not appear using her maiden name.

Moving beyond the 1700's I have one more who could have appeared on the 1881 Census Lucy Baldwin baptised 21 Jan 1836 Drybrook, daughter of Cornelius Baldwin & Sarah Brain.

These are just the one in my family tree, there were no doubt lots more.

Did they have any more children?

Sarah Ann b. Dec 5, 1860
Emanuel b. June 22, 1862

Hi Dewey,

Thanks for the information. Are those dates birthdates or baptisms? Do you know where they were born/baptised?

I would be interested to know more about the emigration of William, just to have the records complete.

How far back have you gone with the WINTLE/YEMM line?

Hi Nancy

A good question about the dates, I had them as dates of birth, I believe that is how they were advised to me. However, I have just checked the Drybrook Parish records on this site and find they are baptisms at the Church of the Holy Trinity Drybrook - "The Forest Church". The only one I couldn't find was William. Sarah Ann is actually shown as baptised 5th February 1860 as Sarah JANE, however, Census records for her and spouse John Brain, shows Sarah Ann :

1881 Census
Dwelling: 8 Harry Hill
Census Place: (Westbury On Severn) East Dean, Gloucester, England

Sarah Ann BRAIN M 21 F East Dean, Gloucester, England
Rel: Wife
Gilbert J. BRAIN 4 m M East Dean, Gloucester, England
Rel: Son

1891 Census East Dean RG12/2004/190
John Brain 35 Drybrook CM
Sarah Ann 31 Drybrook
Ronald G 8 Drybrook
Ivor W 6 Drybrook
Albert T 3 Drybrook

1901 Census East Dean
John Brain 45 CM Harry Hill
Sarah A 41 Harry Hill
Rowland 18 CM Harry Hill
Ivor 16 CM Harry Hill

Christopher 4 Drybrook

I will now bow out and leave this to Dewey, the undoubted expert on this family who I have had the pleasure of communicating with in the past.

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for the census records. I've entered them into my program, along with the names of the children and possible birthdates.

As I am in touch directly with Dewey Bosley, you are excused, lol. I'm sure between the three of us (and others) we will be able to piece this family tree together.
