Census reads :-

Heywood

Lower High Street [Cinderford]

by deduction :-

Seven Stars, 130 High Street

If you go back to the Home page, then Photo Gallery, under Cindeford ( last page ?) you will find an old photo of the Seven Stars

At the bottom of the High Street, near Valley Road. The old Seven Stars is a large detached stone and brick building. A West Country Ales plaque has been removed leaving a tell-tale rectangle shape in the wall. A one- way street to the side of the property is called Seven Stars Lane. In days gone by it was probably a very pleasant pub in which to sup your pint of Alton Court Bitter from Ross on Wye.

Oliver BRAIN - 1901 Census - Need help

Jane
Oliver Brain as you obviously know is the nephew of the Emma Griffiths nee Brain in your posting regarding the Rose in Hand pub.
What is unusual here is that there is a Mabel Hatton staying. If you note the census entry below, a Mabel Hatton aged 12 is with her father, also an Innkeeper, There could of course be more than one 12/14 year old Mabel Hatton in the area – Interesting though. I have found a number of instances of people away from home, also being counted at their home address :

1901 Census Mitcheldean
Phineas Hatton 55 Inn Keeper Edgeworth
Mary H 50 Goudhurst, Kent
Olive K 17 dressmakers apprentice Mitcheldean
Arthur W 16 Grocers apprentice Mitcheldean
Ernest W 14 Mitcheldean
Mabel A 12 Mitcheldean
Sophia Kirkpatrick wdw sister 73

My interest in Mabel is that her brother Ernest Wilfred Hatton born 1887 Mitcheldean, married Olive Lena Cowmeadow born 1895, Olive being the daughter of Cornelius Marfell Cowmeadow & Selina Aston, Cornelius Marfell Cowmeadow being the son of Cornelius Cowmeadow & Jane Hannah Marfell
