His father was William ALLAWAY and his mother Louisa (nee TOMKINS).
Henry was a collier but on November 14th 1897 he joined the Life Guards.

I think that the date relates to his date of birth. It certainly fits with one of the Marfell's I have.

I think you may have mis read the date. The picture of George Marfell I submitted to the photo gallery is of George Marfell baptised 1.7.1781, son of Richard Marfell & Mary Brain.
I have another 39 George Marfell's in my family tree, but the nearest to 1871 I have is September 1870. As I have details of every Marfell Birth, Marriage & Death registraion between 1837 & 2004, I can also tell you that there were no George Marfell's born in 1871 in the UK.
