William Griffiths b. 1856 Ruardean married Emma Brain b. 1855 Ruardean on 12 December 1881 at Westbury on Severn Register Office. Emmas parents were James Brain b. 1816 and Ann Matthews B. 1818.

I'm struggling with my William, I received their marriage certificate today in the hopes of his fathers name. Unfortunately it was blank. My next step is the GRO Indexes if he's not there I don't know where else to go, any ideas?

Looks like you might have nailed this one for me Slowhands!!

After looking into Abiah Griffiths nee Yem I lost her after the 1861 census but she turned up in 1891 married to Richard Knight. Her son Thomas Griffiths was married in 1891 to Elizabeth and was living in 1891 at Snydale, Yorkshire, which is about five miles away from me! I wondered why my Grandfather came to Yorkshire for the mines, maybe it was because he had an Uncle Thomas he could stay with.

I can't seem to locate the family in 1871 or 1881. Fingers crossed they'll turn up.

Spot on yet again Slowhands. I didn't previously know that Abia had married William Griffiths that connects then with the Griffiths in Jane's Rose in Hand posting. But here is some more info:
Amos Yemm baptised 17.1.1796 Ruardean, married Winifred Baldwin at Hope Mansell 1821. They had 9 children :
Amos Baldwin Yemm (no doubt the second name due birth before parents marriage) b. 1819 married Rebecca Marfell 3 children

I have now done so and another tapestry unfolds; having clicked on the link to Richard Knight & Abia, I found that I had Richard Knight and his former wife Emma in my Family Tree. Having linked it all together a really interesting item is worth highlighting :
Thomas Knight b. 1849 son of Richard Knight & Emma married Charlotte Cloudley 25.12.1869 Cinderford, they had 10 children including Lucy b. 1870 who married Harry Powell b. 1868. They had 5 children including Ann Charlotte Lillian Powell b.16.9.1903 Ruardean who married Thomas Moll b.17.9.1902 Oglesby Illinois - son of Edward Moll - see Ed Molls Bar picture.

Williams father also William b. 1808 Dudley, Staffordshire married Sarah Bennet b. 1805 Ruardean also had a daughter Louisa Griffiths b. 1831 Ruardean she married Benjamin Baldwin b. 1828 at Drybrook on 24 Dec 1851. Their children were Issac b. 1861 and Louisa b. 1875. Benjamins parents were Cornelius Baldwin and Elizabeth.

I noticed when checking out the census info that the Griffiths, Baldwin, Marfell, Yem and Knight families lived very close sometimes all together on one street.

I had Benjamin Baldwin in my Family Tree, he was baptised 15.6.1828 son of Cornelius Baldwin & Elizabeth Preece, who were married 11.8.1816. Cornelius & Elizabeth had 7 children, including Benjamin as above, also Edward baptised 10.6.1821 who married Mary Ann Cloudley b.1824 at Westbury on Severn Register Office 9.3.1890. This was a second marriage for Mary Ann Cloudley, she married William Marfell 1822/1879 at Hope Mansell 19.11.1844 and had FOURTEEN children with him. I have most of the 14 Marfell birth & marriage certificates, plus every census, but will stick to the Baldwin’s here

The first child Amos Baldwin Yemm was born before their marriage which took place in 1821.

I can tell you that Winifred’s brother Thomas Baldwin bap 20.3.1803 married Mary Roberts baptised 7.11.1806 on 21.12.1828 English Bicknor, Mary being the daughter of Henry Roberts and Lucy Daw. I can trace back 4 more generations to Henry Roberts & Joan Marfell 1654. But I cannot trace Charles Brain & Betty 1755 further back – can you help here ?

The will of William Dovey of Ruardean 1795 refers to son-in-law Charles Baldwin.

William Dovey married Elizabeth Tingle 21 July 1755 at Ruardean and had a daughter Betty Dovey c 24 June 1759 at Ruardean.
I don't have a marriage of Betty and Charles Baldwin but I know their first child was baptised in 1779.

I know that William Dovey was said to be aged 71 when he died in 1795 but as yet I don't have a baptism for him.
Elizabeth Tingle was c 13 August 1732 as Betty Tingle, she was the youngest daughter of Richard Tingle and Mary Yeme who married at Walford 26 May 1709.

Richard Tingle possibly came from Littledean c 1683 according to the IGI, Mary Yeme was c 18 May 1687 at Ruardean, she was the daughter of Thomas Yeme and Mary Fisher who married at Walford 6 April 1687.

Thomas Yeme was c 14 July 1661 at Ruardean the son of George Yeme and his wife Joan.

George Yeme was c 4 Feb 1625 at Ruardean the son of Richard Yeme.

Richard Yeme was c 6 Feb 1588 at Ruardean the son of James Yeme.

James Yeme was c 4 Oct 1542 at Ruardean the son of James Yeme.

I am researching the line of Ambrose Henry Baldwin. He was born in West Dean in 1866 and was the son of Richard Baldwin and Clementina Sarah Robbins. On his marriage record his fathers name is given as Richard Baldwin ..and his fathers profession as Blacksmith.

Can anyone tell me if Richard senior is the Richard Baldwin the son of Charles and Betty?

This Richard Baldwin married Clementine Sarah Robbins 16.3.1861 at Parkend, he being son of Richard, Blacksmith of West Dean. See this site Parish Records.

I think this could be them in 1851, i.e. Richard, father of Ambrose born 1841, and his father born 1791 :
