I'm having trouble reading the birth place of George Welsh/Welch. I thought it said 'Apperly', but I can't find an 'Apperly' in Gloucestershire. Can you offer any other options?

I have now reviewed the census image and it looks like Apperley to me, which ties in with earlier census entries giving the Tewkesbury area for George W born approx 1820

Yes, I think we are distantly related by marriage. A Thomas Welch married my great grandmothers sister, Sarah. This was at St Nicholas's, Gloucester 24Oct1846. I expect this Thomas was brother to your George.

Thomas was born about 1824. In 1851 Census, they lived at Soudley, FoD. He gave his place of birth as Norton, Glos. In 1861, Upton, Glos. In 1871, Eldersfield, Worcs. He was evidently playing games with the enumerator but it's good enough. A son, GEORGE was born in 1860.

Thomas and Sarah had children, Rosanne 1847, Ellen 1850, John 1854 and George 1860. This may add to your family tree.

Best Wishes,

Roger

Amazing how many cousins several times removed one can have! George and his wife Harriet (nee Fennell) only had one child, Emma.
