Sophia BROADHURST transported to Van Diemens Land in 1845 (General)

I am in touch with a woman in Tasmania who posted this on the Hereford boards, I thought it might be of interest here.

Would anyone know of the family of Sophia Broadhurst? She was possibly born in Leominster, Herefordshire about 1822 to George and Ann. On her convict records, Sophia stated she had a sister Anna and a brother Isaac. She was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1845 aboard the Emma Eugenia 3. In the colony, Sophia named two other children George and her daughter Ann Anna. Sophia may have had a child, also named George, born about 1844/5 and possibly fathered by a Charles White in England before her transportation. Thanks Lettie

Sophia White, proper name Broadhurst, aged 22, was tried at the Gloucester Summer Assizes with Susan Price before E Machen Esq. The crime was assaulting Elijah Morris on the Queens Highway at Lydney Gloucester on Saturday night of the 14th June and stealing a purse worth a penny and eleven shillings his property. She was sentenced to be transported to parts beyond the seas for 10 years.
The only child to survive in the colony was Ann Anna born in 1851 - my great great grandmother!
Lettie.

[my post]
In 1841 Sophia is in Monmouth Jail with about 5 or 6 other young girls, including a 5 year old said to be a debtor.
Sophia Broadhurst age 15, not born in County. age 15 may be a guess.
So Sophia is in jail down in Monmouth in the spring of 1841, she mugged her victim in Lydney on the other side of The Forest, shouldn't walk alone in Lydney, LOL, but he was probably drunk for a couple of girls to rob him. Do you know the date of the crime?

I believe Sophia committed the robbery on the 14th of June 1844 at Lydney.

I did find a Broadhurst family for her in Yarpole near Leominster in the 1851 census. I wonder if anyone here knows anything about Elijah Morris or what happened to Susan Price? cheers fred

Suggest you contact Gloucestershire Archives and obtain copy of the entry from the Gloucester Gaol Register. See this web page for info:
http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1348
A search of the Index gives the following:
SURNAME FORENAME COMMITTAL AGE PARISH/TOWN OCCUPATION REF:
WHITE Sophia 17 Jun 1845 22 Knighton RAD Hawker Q/Gc6/1

This tells us that Sophia was from Knighton, Radnorshire (now Powys) and it is possible the register entry may provide more.

A search for Susan Price gives:
