Working at the Cable Works (General)

I have hazy recollections of my deceased mother and her sister making reference to working at "the cable works". The period in question would have been between 1920 and 1935, approximately, and they were brought up in Ruardean. The location Lydbrook comes to mind but I could be way off beam there.
Can anyone throw some illumination on this please?
