There is a Henry Jones baptised in Newland in 1832 on the parish pages.

There are lots of possible reasons why you cannot locate a baptism record for Henry such as maybe he was never baptised, was baptised in a non-conformist chapel, was not sure where he was really born and and listed Lydbrook for convenience. There are probably many more reasons as well.

I've noticed that slowhands and others have listed many possibilities previously for your Henry. Could I suggest that you share with us as much factual information that you have on Henry and his his family, as that would make it easier for others to assist you.

Henry JONES born Lydbrook 1832

Hi This is the verified evidence I have about Henry JONES.He was my 2x grt grandfather and his name is on Jane JONES(his daughter)marriage certificate(1873) a collier living at Berry Hill(born Lydbrook). There`s no father written on Jane`s birth cert. mother Hannah JONES born 5 Acres.Jane lived with her maternal grandmother at least until 1871.In 1857 Hannah married Benjamin GUNDY but by 1871 She was with Henry(at Berry Hill)as his housekeeper. In 1881 he was still at Berry Hill with Hannah plus son ( also Henry)Henry senior had died by 1891
I`ve found 7 Henry JONESs born between 1821 and 1832 at Dean Forest(3), West Dean, Lydbrook and Clearwell. Is Newland interchangeable with Lydbrook as a birthplace? There was a Henry who was a lodger but the record was incomplete so I dont know where he was living.

Hello sylvia

I recently went to Hereford record office looking for my Jones families and decided to look at the non conformist records they hold, and was surprised as to how many people crossed the border, many had Coleford and surrounding areas listed as their abode.

I just wanted to make you aware of other possibilities, and good luck with your search. My own Henry Jones born 1843 was illegitimate and born in Hereford workhouse.

Best wishes.......Gill Webb
