Corn Riots - Thomas Rosser (General)

by Chris O\'Sullivan, Saturday, June 16, 2007, 01:58 (6372 days ago)

I am interested in Thomas & Sarah (nee Howell) Rosser from Coleford / Lane End who married at Littledean 1832. Thomas was a stonecutter / quarryman. Three known children were Isiah (bn abt 1833), Thomas (bn abt 1836) & George (bn abt 1839).

I have been told that there was a Thomas Rosser who was hung for his involvement in the Corn Riots. My research indicates that these were around 1795. There were also other riots in 1831 in which Sarah Rosser's brother, George Howell was involved. He hid in a cave to escape being captured.

Is anyone researching the Rossers from this area who could confirm whether the hanging of Thomas Rosser is true and whether there is a connection with the above Thomas Rosser who married Sarah Howell.
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris

Nice to have contact with you again

Would there be anything in the book listed first on this link

http://home.freeuk.net/gloshistory/lhcbrev3.htm

Are you referring to our George and Sarah, son and daughter of Thomas and Susannah Howell?

Thanks
